Honestly thought he was 5'10-5'11 but he's still not big by any means.

Nick is at least thick and extremely durable. I can live with 5'11 from him

You assume Cooley is not durable? Just joking bud. Really wanted Cooley during his draft year,

Just found it weird when people call 5p11-6ft center small. It's the size of Sid, Suzuki, Point, etc. Anyway to each his own opinion.

Cooley is a stud I'm just picky with my top 6 centers. 6'2+ is my preference. I'm cool with a "small" guy if he's thick and/or a gamer in big moments.

Funny you mention point because to me he is small too. But he's a gamer so id love him.

There was constant chatter about Cooley's size in his draft year. He does play very low to the ice and looks small at times. He might actually be under 6'0. NHL clubs are known to routinely bump up heights - Cooley was measured at 5'10 1/2 at the draft combine and a large majority of 18 year olds are done growing.

But what's really striking about his build is that he is all arms and legs. I can't remember the exact figure but it was calculated that Cooley's reach from toes to fingers is equivalent to like a 6'2 or 6'3 player (something around there). The most underrated issue with small players is reach - unless you have Suzuki type IQ you will have a harder time reaching pucks. So Cooley has a big advantage there. And range of motion is really helpful on the attack of course too.

Edit: I'll bring this back to Demidov - he also plays very low to the ice very wide on his inside edges, and seems to have terrific lateral range and reach.

Big fan of Carlsson too i can see him being better than bedard and Michkov if all things go well, but for now will slot him behind those guys.

Fantilli and Cooley could go either way but I like fantilli more. Not a fan of small centers

Then smith at the bottom. Haven't watched a ton of him only a little bit I don't think he belongs here no disrespect to him

Fantilli is well ahead of Carlsson and he's right there with Bedard, IMHO. Also, he's always been ahead of Michkov to me.

Cooley was 5'10.5 at the combine a few years ago. Teams add an extra inch or so to their players' heights all the time. Though I'm not arguing with the rest, he's big enough.

Michkov has 75% offensive zone starts and is somehow still a -15 with 33% of his points on the power play. He is a power play specialist who cannot play a lick of defense, just 23 hits. He floats.

Fantilli has 65% offensive zone starts and is a plus 1 with 91% of his points at even strength. He also has 88 hits and he's starting to kill penalties. He's been a #1 center since January, 26 points in 25 games.

Get ready for this ice time discrepancy to persist and possibly get even wider later in their careers. Fantilli could play half the game while Michkov has to exhaust himself to keep up. Athleticism matters.

And FWIW Fantilli is improving across the board in the second half, now with 27 pts in 26 games in 2025.

Nope, apparently they will just send him to the MHL for the playoffs there.

The only way he plays in the NHL this season is if the Habs make the cup final, since his contract will be done then.
