Nah. Spot on post that cuts through the hype and frothing desperation from most of my team's fanbase that has overrated every single prospect out of a yearning to finally see our first forward superstar in thirty or so years.
That’s a fallacy btw and also Demidov is universally recognized as the best prospect in the world and a sure fire NHL superstar lmao

...Management/Coaching Staff in Montreal at the time certainly didn't help him, though...he was a LONG TERM PROJECT that wasn't allowed the time to grow...yeah, he coulda been washed from the start, but he wasn't given a proper chance either...
Your comment makes absolutely no sense. You're calling him overrated and 1 paragraph below you write that he's going to be a high end first liner?

Did someone tell you they expect him to break Wayne's points record?
What are you even talking about?

A player who myriad fans believe is going to become a superstar, a top five player in the league, "better than Kaprizov," etc. when in reality he tops out as a "mere" high-end first line player is being ridiculously overrated.

You cannot actually believe something like that. Absent injuries, Kaprizov is a 100 pt per season player and a dominant force on the ice. Demidov has no chance of being one of the best players in the league, and illusions produced by the lacking quality of competition in the modern KHL do nothing to dispel reality.

Yes. Fan expectations are... rating of the prospect?

You literally just repeated what I said. He is vastly overrated by many fans of the Canadiens who believe that he's going to become "better than Kaprizov" or the like.

Best D+1 in a league that's vastly worse in terms of overall quality of competition than it was when the previous record-holders achieved their success. It's stated in my post.
No chance is a laughable statement. Unlikely? Sure. He has as much of a chance as any prospect that exists, unless you believe nobody under 25 will ever score 100 pts in the NHL again.

and I’m not a habs fan. Their success is bad for my team. But I’m also not blind lol

Obviously most rookies never reach the lofty expectactions people put on them. But if there is finally ONE habs prospect that has the POTENTIAL (emphasis on that word) to become a superstar. It surely is Demidov.

He's got no chance of becoming a Kaprizov?

Lol

Kaprizov isn't Mario Lemieux

Wtf is this analysis

You’re either trolling or trying to look dumb on purpose

The year Kaprizov broke the U-20 record in the KHL with 42p in 49gp the leading scorer on his team was Linus Omark with 56 in 55. The same Omark who couldn't even keep an NHL job. This was when the league was vastly stronger?

So just to clarify are you saying demidov won't be a 100 point player in the NHL?

Plus it’s not only the points, it’s how he actually plays on the ice and his skillset. It would help if he watched a game or two, but oh well.

Demidov is just a notch ahead of everyone in its draft skillwise and that says a lot when you have names like Celibrini and Sennecke.

He’s so unpredictable and dynamic. He’s going to have one hell of a career

Such a great bookmark for the collection lol.

I'll give you credit, most people have now seen plenty of Demidov over the past few months and can easily see the potential he has. Most of the trolls have run away from here so now its an unabashed hype thread. You see, they don't want to look bad next year so they don't post anything hoping their takes will be forgotten.

Every statistic model sees it too, I've yet to see anyone in the mainstream say anything other than some variation of praising his skill, IQ, and enormous upside. It is a bit much considering everyone is thinking the same thing with this player.

And then there's you.

Should be really hard to bet on who's gonna be right: The hockey community at large or ReimanSum1908 from HFBoards.

So a number of fans that you can count on one hand makes bold predictions and you feel it is your duty to put them back in their place telling them he will merely become a high end first liner? Ok.

Ignoring the whole debate (you and I likely have similar views on Demidov)...

Yes, vastly better league. Check out SkA's roster.

Voynoc, Kovalchuk, Gusev, Shesterkin, Dadonov... That roster is beyond stacked.

Mozyakin, Semin, Samsonov

So much talent in the league back then. Kaprisov was 21st in the league that year in scoring. Demidov is 15th right now.

The KHL was a much much better league back then.

Nikishin is already better than Voynov ever was, then there is Kuznetsov (injured right now though), Grigorenko, Plotnikov.

And a lot of good NA players have come since 2022.

When getting at least 9:47 of ice time, Demidov has 42 pts in 39 KHL games. That's a pace of 61 pts in 57 games.

Kaprisov's best KHL season came in his 22-year-old season where he scored 62 pts in 57 games.

Demidov, in his 18-year-old season, is basically having a KHL season as good as any Kaprizov ever had.
