F Ivan Demidov - SKA St. Petersburg, KHL (2024, 5th, MTL) Part 2

What is going to happen if he ends up a 60 point winger? Will MTL fanbase combust?

Demidov becoming just a 60 pts player is very unlikely to happen.
He has elite offensive skills, great skating ability, high end IQ, decent size, high compete level, and great character. There is no notable weakness to his game. The floor on Demidov is very high.

He will be playing for a coach who is good at developing young players and he will be playing with good offensive teammates. He has also proven he can dominate against men in a pro league.

If Demidov becomes a 50-60 point player it will be business as usual for us habs fans and I won't even be surprised honestly.

He's the greatest habs prospect I've ever seen in my life but the habs fans in here saying he's a free 100 points or whatever just make me confused because they probably don't even remember what a 100 point player looks like yet talk in absolutes with this guy.

I'm not a Habs fan, though...

So a number of fans that you can count on one hand makes bold predictions and you feel it is your duty to put them back in their place telling them he will merely become a high end first liner? Ok.
A number of a fans? Pretty much the entire Montreal fanbase is certain that he's a surefire superstar, again, a top 5/10 player in the league who'll regularly put up around 100 point.

All that I've said is that he's been ridiculous overrated, while maintaining that he is a great prospect - you can be such and remain overrated - who will likely be among the top 45 forwards in the league (i.e. a high-end first line player).

The reactions of the emotionally fragile Montreal fans, many of whom were sure that Slafkovsky was the next Jagr, has only demonstrated how terribly over-hyped and over-rated Demidov has become, as has the continued denial of reality that the KHL in years past was far better in terms of talent that it is today.

Spot-on. My suspicion - though it depends on how NHL scoring evolves given that we've seen a steady rise in it - is that Demidov will flirt with a point per game throughout his career, but will never be considered a "star" outside of the Montreal media and fandom machine.

Overrated? Well, he's already set a few records, and pretty important ones. Like the best D season in the MHL, the best U20 scoring season in the KHL, 7 times Rookie of the Week... And the transition from KHL to NHL usually goes much smoother than from any other league, AHL included.

He's our most hyped prospect ever.
