F Ivan Demidov (2024, 5th, MTL) Part 2

Hope he leads the league in scoring and gets a max contract. Why would you want him to play worse? Odd.

Because his prime will be in his early to mid-twenties. If he hits near PPG in his rookie season his agent will want 10-12 mil per and maybe for a short term. The best situation is in effect, he's signed his ELC now which means he can be re-signed July '26 for an 8yr contract. In addition he'll only have 1 season to prove his worth.

Just basic NHL contract negotiations. Just imagine if Hutson hadn't burned a year last season? He kicks butt this year but couldn't be re-signed until July '26 so he gets a second season to prove his worth. Let's say he hits PPG in 25/26, that would mean he'd probably sign something like a 4yr 12.5AAV type contract.

Demidov’s a beast. Habs have every right to promote him like the second coming, but expectations will be through the roof. Remember that Michkov had a brilliant start to lay the groundwork and allow fans to excuse any slump, which did come soon thereafter. We all know Demidov will be feted in Montreal if he does the same, but how do they treat him if he struggles out the gate? There’s a nice little rivalry brewing with the Flyers (beyond Chelios-Hextall) so the shit talking is going to intense regardless. Personally, I want both to succeed, win awards, and help grow the game.

Demidov is in much better situation. Anyway it’s in the head of fans. Both are great and different. So sad they can’t play together.

The Canadiens are a playoff team with extremely high potential. There is zero justification from wanting anything but the best from your players in that situation. You win, and then you figure out money.

The Leafs way?

“Ivan, we want you to hold back. If you could coast in the 1st and 2nd periods and work on your actual development in the 3rd, that would be prime. We need you ripe as home garden tomato for your 24 year old season.”

Geez. I never said hold him back, I said I hope he doesn't kick too much ass in his 1st(2nd) season. He'll have all the time in the world to make the NHL his biatch. I mean if he does ruin this league I'd be jazzed but also super fearful of his next contract.

My guess is he meant a max contract at a cap hit that doesn't break the bank. Look what Hutson is going to do to us (great problem to have, don't get me wrong). Better that he explode in year 1 of his extension or the final year of his rookie deal, after the extension is signed.

Demidov's prime starts today and lasts at least 15 years. He's practically a lock to pass Jagr as best European forward.

Its Canada, were just bored to death.

Before we learn to walk we can cross check properly. :naughty:
I don't find any fanbase to be like the Habs one.

You guys have full game threads on your forum for Demidov SKA games that are as long as some threads for actual NHL game threads for some fanbases.

The passion with the Habs fans is just different. Leafs and Canucks match it in certain respects, but the Habs fanbase is the most passionate in the sport, in my opinion.

Will be interesting to see how he deals with the speed and back pressure in the NHL. He's a great lateral skater but his straight ahead speed is pretty meh, hopefully he finds ways to create time and space. Shouldn't be too hard vs the Hawks.
