This is one of the more surprising stories I can remember out of training camp. This summer I would have thought he had zero chance to make the Leafs, but he just played too well to ignore.
I cant remember the last time one of our 2nd round picks came in at 19 and forced his way onto the roster. Just a big strong kid with high hockey IQ.
Really excited to see more of that Knies-Minten-Jarnkrok line, they were great in preseason.
Next year Cowen may be readyIf this kid is for real, and can lock down 3C this season, it’s a huge deal for us. It really seems like you need good contributors on ELCs to win cups, and that’s something that’s been badly lacking on the Leafs.

Knies is only 20. He is starting the year at 3LW, but that's not a slight against him. Bertuzzi and Domi are being given an opportunity to play with Matthews/Marner and Tavares/Nylander first. He'll likely shift to the top 6 at some point in the near future. Too good of a player not to. He'll be a good one.Wait Knies is a 3rd line player for the Leafs? I thought he was their next big superstar.
Ok, I took him early in my fantasy pool thinking a ppg hobey baker finalist with size, talent and dominant in the playoff will 100% play with top talent. Now that I realise he is on the 3rd line I am disappointed about my selection.Knies is only 20. He is starting the year at 3LW, but that's not a slight against him. On the bright side atleast you didn't take Slaf on your fantasy team.Ok, I took him early in my fantasy pool thinking a ppg hobey baker finalist with size, talent and dominant in the playoff will 100% play with top talent. Slaf will play on the 2nd line though. I took Knies higher than Slaf but the way it is going, it might be a bad decision, TBD.On the bright side atleast you didn't take Slaf on your fantasy team.
I guess we will know in 9 games but man the jump from junior straight to the NHL in their draft year is a really big one.If this kid is for real, and can lock down 3C this season, it’s a huge deal for us. Lol the season hasn't even started yet.Slaf will play on the 2nd line though. I took Knies higher than Slaf but the way it is going, it might be a bad decision, TBD.
Yeah, I just mean there's no reason to be disappointed yet lol.hence the TBD
Wouldn't be shocked if the lines are shuffled by the 2nd period of the 1st game, and Knies is moved up to the 1st line.Ok, I took him early in my fantasy pool thinking a ppg hobey baker finalist with size, talent and dominant in the playoff will 100% play with top talent. Nevermind I'm on pain killers for my back forgot it was Minten.
I still think he might go down after 9 games though.

I have watched Kamloops Blazers play many many times over the years every year and yes Minten is a pretty good player but I would never have imagined he would be NHL ready this season. I guess it just goes to show how some players have the ability to up their game at higher levels and excel playing with better older players. Some young guys sit back and watch the vets play and some decide to step up immediately and make a difference
