He is very fun to watch I´m definitely impressed by him too. I expected him being good and he is, and he also exceeded my expectations. Of course Matvei is in his own tier but if I should to choose the other one who has potential be a star, it is certainly Yurov. I see him as a top 10 pick in 2022 - the best Russian prospect in this class for me by far.

Him and Miroshnichenko can both be picked in top10, but I think Yurov will go earlier.

I dont agree with you at all.

Miroshnichenko is for me a very good complementary player he is definitely 1st rounder but... he is nothing special. He gets more hype than he deserves.

Yurov is a smart hockey player and he is more skilled too. And he drives his line and I see him ends up as a much better player than Miroshnichenko. They arent in the same tier of players for me right now.

Maybe I will be surprised but this is my current viewing of these two.

He does remind me a little of Barbashev but with a better shot - Barbashev is a fine player and contributed to a cup-winning team already, he hasn't been as good as most thought he would be at that age.

I think he will be better than that, but I see some similarities

Miro ruined his year and hurt his development by trying to go abroad. An important lesson for everyone else.

He still got into some games at least, and didn't end up going into the USHL so, could have been worse.

I thought he had an excellent tournament. Very few or no holes in his game. He was Russia's best player, and I don't care what the scoresheet says. He should be full-time next season in the KHL for Magnitka.

As for his draft position, it's still early, but I think top 5 is possible, more likely around 6-12. Here's an interesting question though. Dylan Guenther is widely viewed as the best winger in the 2021 draft. Is Guenther a better prospect than Yurov? I'm not convinced he is, but 2022 is supposed to be better than 2021, so that could explain how Guenther is a likely top 5 pick and Yurov probably doesn't get picked that high.

The thing I noticed more than anything with this player at the U-18 is that only good things happen when he’s on the ice.

Reminds me a bit of Yakupov. Not in a bad way, though. Yakupov’s prospect profile would still go top 3 in most drafts. Something just fell apart in his mental game / hockey IQ

I don’t think Yak was ever a smart player. IQ not comparable to Yurov, who makes skill plays that require hockey sense and a “feel” that can translate to the pros.

Playing center right now vs Salavat at the preseason tournament. Scored a primary assist, 2-0 after the 1st.

Interesting, I do remember that he played that position before but has since been converted to wing.

It would be great if he can play center full time.

Too good for MHL but not trusted to get top 9 KHL icetime . Yurov should be getting VHL time , that is the ideal spot for him at the moment.

There is a natural problem to it some KHL teams have. MMG's VHL affiliate is 3000km away in Angarsk near Baikal. And to add insult to injury there were some news about serious financial trouble the VHL team was having recently.

I am no Magnitogorsk or Ural insider so I don't know why MMG changed their VHL affiliations so often recently and why they moved away from more local VHL teams which are plenty in the hockey hotbed Ural. But obvously signing off the affiliation with a team near Irkutsk MMG was not counting on using it much for development of young players. My understanding is there aren't even direct flights to Irkutsk. You'd have to have an eight hour grind of a connection with a layoff in Novosibirsk. So you can't really move a guy there quickly and then conveniently get him back for the next game. Not to mention that your highly regarded prospect might not like the idea of being sent to see Baikal and stay with a VHL team that is struggling in each and every way. I guess MMG's general idea of development is using the MHL/KHL duo in their case. Some KHL teams do that. Not every KHL team has a very tight structure of MHL/VHL/KHL affiliations as MHL teams grew naturally from hockey schools owned directly by the KHL teams. VHL affiliates are often stadanlone teams that are just brought in on a contract.
