After thinking about it for a while, the NHL player that Reschny reminds me of is Eberle. I think they'll get drafted in similar spots, around 22ish, maybe Reschny goes a little higher. I don't think he has the skating to be a play driver, but I think he could be a great complimentary scorer. He's got the awareness, hands, and shot to play well with elite players.

This sounds about right. I wonder also if he can stick at center or if he’ll have to move off. I think he plays a likable game, but he’s 5’9/5’10 without elite traits. Don’t think he’s like a Benson or Catton talent. A tier or two down from that.

He had a great tournament and was easily Canada's best forward. Hopefully grows a little more but has a thick frame which tbh is important when players are that size vs a slim build type. Is posed for a big year with Victoria who should hopefully turn the corner and compete

If only he, Benak, Ivankovic were taller, they’d all be top-10 selections

Cole is an interesting player. I don’t feel like I’ve had enough viewings to do a full write up but I do like this player. I think he’s just been tough for me to properly rank.

In the positive, he’s a great playmaker. He’s one of the few player I’ve seen that can drive a line. He does a great job with the puck on his stick and has great vision. Some of the passes he is able to make are outstanding. His mobility is also a strong point in his game.

I definitely think his lack of strength is a concern. He is listed at 5’10” but can’t really hang along the boards. I also don’t see him as a totally competent player in the defensive zone. He’s not afraid to go to the dirty areas, but he definitely doesn’t excel in puck battles. I also think that he’s always super engaged in defensive positioning.

I love the playmaking ability but I think he needs to get stronger. He’s been a tough player to rank properly.

1G, 1A tonight. Consistently putting up solid, not spectacular numbers. I think he'll get bumped down lists because of others rising, not necessarily Cole's play.

Do you really think so? I don't see others players rising so much, lots of them are having slow start (Ryabkin, Frondell etc.) and it's not like many players have better production. I feel like Reschny can be a riser through the year.

Yeah but the guys you mentioned aren’t going to fall that far, at least not based on this season so far. And just in the WHL you could argue a lot of guys starting even or behind Cole in the pre-season are having even better starts with a mix of projectable standout traits…Schmidt, Lakovic, Bear, Behm, Kindel.

Not saying Cole isn’t in the mix with some of those guys but the WHL alone looks really, really stacked with high production picks that will have 1st or 2nd round grades.

Yes, and as BKarchitect said, there has been several WHL prospects with excellent starts, such as Bear, who I think will be in a lot of first round lists soon.

Cole has been steady and I'm high on him. Just saying others in the DUB have even better starts.

I'm becoming more and more of a fan each time I see him. He's really smart, and has a very detailed game already, and I think he has lots of pro habits that will make transitioning to pro hockey easier for him. His issues to me are mainly to do with his athleticism. He's just not very strong, or explosive, or super fast. I think he will improve significantly in all of those areas as he gets older, so I'm not really worried. I haven't seen him play live in almost two months, but I'm going to their game against PG on the 18th, so I look forward to watching him again.

Currently, my opinion is that he has 2C potential, as a two-way 65 point C. Similar to Henrique, with better playmaking.

Any thoughts on how Cole is progressing this season? @landy92mack29 @Bubbles @MS @Hinterland

I think he's done well. I think you'll see an increase in his production now that he has Lisowsky and Isogai to play with. I'll echo what @macbowes said, but add that yeah his size is going to be an issue until he gets more "man strength", so it might take him longer to reach the NHL.

It is interesting that his fellow teammates on the Hlinka/Gretzky tourney named him best play maker.

He's a very good prospect but when I've watched him he's reminded me a lot of Peyton Krebs or Sam Steel which isn't necessarily the greatest thing.

Like Krebs/Steel, Reschny is a really smart, solid two-way WHL C. Terrific player at this level. Will probably be on future Canadian WJC teams. But you wonder if there's any sort of defining trait there that will really pop at higher levels to allow the player to become a legit productive top-6 C or if he's just going to project as a smallish smart hard-working utility player. And Reschny is even smaller than those guys at the same age. His playmaking will really have to play up because I'm not sure any of his size/skating/shot really will.

Consensus ranking right now has Reschny at 16 and Cootes at 20 but I'd have Cootes ahead due to his size and especially skating advantage and have Reschny more in the 25-35 range.

18 goals, 50 points, 0.96 ppg
not just about the pts for this kid. I have watched him live about 30 times here in Victoria, it`s what he does away from the puck that will help him as he moves up levels whenever he does.

He is not the kind of player that will bring you out of your seats due to electric plays every time he touches the puck, he simply does everything very well and that is in every zone on the ice

You want to keep your eye on someone, check out Keaton Verhoeff , 6`3/4 D man for the Royals, kid is going to be an absolute beast and a hands down 1st rounder in his draft year
