2nd rounder at the very end of the round if I remember correctly. Habs had the same for Fisher back in the 2000s

Yes, the Wild would get a compensatory 2nd if they don't sign Stramel. Flyers just finally got theirs (Jack Berglund was the selection) for not signing mega bust 2018 1st rounder Jay O'Brien

Plus you then have to wait for that player to develop.



I wonder if the Wild use him in a trade. Either for a similar prospect, just for a pick(s), or maybe a part in a bigger trade..

Or as anything been said about the Wild believing in him, or something ?

The Wild management has been high on him since they drafted him, I don't see why they wouldn't offer him a contract.

Really hard to evaluate what he may be like in the NHL considering the extremely slow start to his NCAA career. Maybe he can be Nick Bjugstad lite in the league if he progresses, but if he doesn't, just feels like he'll be a slightly more skilled, but quite vanilla Brett Ritchie.
 
Not sure what it means in terms of his long-term future - nice seeing him assist on the GWG in the Big 10 championship game.

Some of the criticism he received in these threads when he was at Wisconsin and left off the USA U20 team was way over the top.

Nice seeing him have the last laugh.

Stramel is much more physical than Bjugstad. Good on the dot, great athlete. He will find a bottom 6 role, question is how long it takes him.

I'm not sure if it qualifies as having the last laugh yet, because I think he needs NHL success for that, but it was a gorgeous assist. He made that play happen.

Let’s pump the brakes on the “last laugh” part. He hasn’t even signed his ELC. He hasn’t played a pro game yet. See where I’m going with this?

Went from being buried with the Badgers to playing on one of the top lines in college hockey and competing for a national championship. Whether he reaches the NHL or not he's had a hockey experience that few ever have.

I'd say that's a last laugh. But a Wolverine?

I guess we have different expectations from a 21st overall drafted prospect.

I see a lot of John Beecher in his game, maybe with a bit more offensive skill & creativity but not as strong of a skater.

Honestly I think he will be a very good 4th line center in his prime, which is still a pretty valuable commodity in today's NHL.

He was an athletic phenom at the combine. Impressive numbers across the board. Started playing NCAA a year early.

Patience is the key. Not an ideal pick, but if he becomes an above average bottom 6 C, that’s a very useful piece.

Those two years in Wisconsin were so bad that he deserved every bit of that criticism. If anything what's over the top now is the praise for him. He's a physically advantaged junior playing up in the lineup on one of the best teams in college hockey, and he's still statistically just another guy. Only 9 goals and 26 points while his linemate doubles him up in production. Where would his numbers be without Howard? He doesn't get many points without Howard also in the goal announcement. A slow motion circling of the net on your backhand isn't going to work well in the NHL, everyone being tired in 2OT or not.

You don't have to burn a 1st rounder on at best a big 4th line faceoff man. Just a disappointing pick all around, and this year is not a redemption by any means. If anything it's somewhat of a redemption for the coaches at Wisconsin.

He could still be a 3C if everything works out. But if he's only a solid 4C with size and skating ability, that's a perfectly fine outcome for a late first rounder. Obviously they were hoping he'd be more of a middle 6C+, but he's still likely to become a full time NHLer.

I think I had him around 27 in my final rankings, so he was drafted a bit higher than I would have taken him, but I don't think it was an egregious pick by any means.

He’s only a Junior because he started a year early. He was playing in the Big Ten when he should’ve been a Senior in High School.
