F Cayden Lindstrom - Medicine Hat Tigers, WHL (2024, 4th, CBJ)

Oh, I think you misunderstood. I'm not saying sports fans don't make snap judgements. I'm saying sports fans who make snap judgements a year after an NHL draft are morons. That's all.
The real morons are the ones who come into prospect threads to tell everyone they're morons for discussing developing players.

Once again putting words in my mouth. I discuss players development all day. What's going on with Lindstrom is not good. That said, labeling a player drafted 8 months ago a bust is ridiculous. Crowning winners and losers when 1 player from the draft is playing in the league is stupid. It's not hard to understand.

I think generally redrafts after a year are a little stupid. You don’t judge a pick on half a season of info.

At the same time, I think there are usually some cases where a player way outplays their position or way underplays their position.

A guy who misses more than a year with a back injury that may never correct itself is not someone that a team would consider anywhere near pick 4, barring a McDavid level talent.

Article on current status

TLDR; starting to skate (a “hot chocolate”skate is what he’s doing as of now). Still recovering on schedule from his November surgery. He’s in stage 3 recovery of a 5 stage plan. If cleared by doctors next week he will ramp up his skating. May not play this year.

He’s been doing VR training that Washington commanders QB Jayden Daniels recommended for cognitive improvements.

Next year he may play college hockey in the US. For the practice advantages, lighter schedule, and better training facilities.

He’s been taken in as part of the team (he’s been at most/all CBJ home games and hangs out in the locker room). Hes been hanging out at the homes of veteran teammates like JVR and Gudbranson.

WOAH. That's a big potential development. Wonder if Waddell and management would give Lindstrom free will to choose wherever he wants to go play, at somewhere like Denver, North Dakota, Michigan, or would they steer him to a specific program, like Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, etc.

I'm glad for Lindstrom that everything seems to be on track given all of the circumstances. It's got to be really tough on him losing this year.

From reading the article and Waddell's comments on the timeline, I'd have to lean towards him not playing this year.

The WHL fan in me would see this as having massive ripple effects. I don't think Med Hat is going to be as good as everyone thinks next year, especially off-rip, and if Lindstrom doesn't come back, Med Hat is obviously going to be in an even worse spot and may have to make some tough decisions. Could potentially have McKenna impacts as well.

From the article, it appears Ohio State is the clubhouse leader, which makes sense because then he would be close.

Not sure how that would work or if specific schools are known for better off ice programs but with how much they've been around Michigan you'd think there would be some level of comfort there
