Only on these boards would a player who's career high in points is 57 after having played over 300 games in the NHL is valued higher than a player coming off a 103 point season who got votes for the Selke. Yes, Miller is 31. He's also coming off a career high in points with no signs of slowing down. 0 interest in moving him, so really the point is moot.

It's not even really about that. Value-wise, Miller is worth more right now, but from a team-building perspective it doesn't make sense to swap a winger who is 23 for a center who is 31.
We need to trade away vets, not add more. Plus, we already have Mika and Trocheck signed long term. Trocheck has 4 years left and his NMC becomes a 12-team NTC on July 1st. He's having a down year, but he had a career year last season and would have value to other teams at a reasonable cap hit. Mika is the real problem. 5 years left with a full NMC, and the signing bonuses make his contract buyout-proof.
If we could somehow swap Mika for Miller, I'd be all for it. But as long as Mika is on the team, it doesn't make sense for us to trade valuable assets for an expensive center. We have to hope Mika can figure it out and return to the player he was a couple years ago or ride it out until we can get rid of him.
Besides all of that, both Panarin and Kreider could be playing elsewhere in the near future. If that happens, we're going to need Laf more than we're going to need JT Miller.
Trading Laf for Miller would just be doubling down on a failed bet.

Was playing through an injury he sustained in training camp (So the entire year), will be good 2 go when he returns.
Other GMs see it too. Dreger was on local radio yesterday and said Drury actually called the Canucks about potentially trading for Horvat and was told that he is not available, and that every playoff team would have interest in Miller were he to become available. But some morons on here would have you believe he's a cancer who has little value, when reality is he's better/more valuable than quite a few team's best players.

True, MacKinnon had a high of 63 after 300+ games and that came from his rookie season. He was declining year 2 and plateauing in year 3. He couldn't have returned a Miller calibre player back then (or at least one that was playing). Avs were forced to double down on their investment at that point eventually leading to the departure of ROR and Duchene.

And even then, what MacKinnon showed in his rookie season was better than anything Laf has done in his career up until this point, especially his series against the Wild. It's just obscene seeing people act like Laf would have more value in this hypothetical (Which may not be so hypothetical, based on the report that Drury called on him and was turned down).

They're not winning anything this year. They may not even make the playoffs, and I'm dead serious.
The team has quit on the GM. They are PISSED at how things have shaken out.
Until Trouba is traded and the C is moved to someone else, the room will remain in shambles and the play on the ice will stay the same. Igor and Quick will steal them a game every now and then but they aren't winning this year. They couldn't win last year and on paper they're noticeably worse this year due to cap casualties.
This is a dumb proposal that won't happen. Miller could score 200 points a year, he has no value to the current state of the NYR. They need to tear it down and let some of their older, overcooked players fall off the books while giving more minutes to their young guys.
This is more than a losing streak in November solely based on how they're playing. They're not just losing, they're committing an assault to the game of hockey by literally not even trying out there.
This is not even some fan overreaction; their underlying numbers are bottom in the league. The eye test is even worse. This is a team whose GM tried everything he could to trade their captain after 2 ECFs in 3 years and a pres trophy season. They're pissed, they're over it, they're "quiet quitting" on the front office.

Yes a player with 99, 82 and 103 points the last 3 seasons will surely be traded for a player who has 31, 39 and 57 points in his last 3 seasons. I mean it's bound to happen. This is a hockey trade, 1 for 1.
