People keep saying this . No he did not . He scored some goalie when team like Vancouver clinched a playoff birth and was resting their regulars . Over 1/2 his 17 goals came at the end of the year .

Did they really. He started the season in late January. Scored many of his goals against Vezina candidates. Vancouver had Luongo in net when he scored his hat-trick against them. The idea that it doesn't count because the Sedins didn't play is... exotic.

Fans are too quick to call young players a bust . Pulujarvi was called a bust last year and while he may not be putting up tone of points yet he been great . I would not trade him for another 4th OA right now . He hard on the forecheck . He physical , He is starting to piss other players off and he is still on pace for 20+ goalie over 82 games . Not bad for a bust .

Calling Laf a bust at 19 ? Look in the mirror and ask yourself were you the best version of yourself at 19. Could you do the job you are doing now as good ? Not likely . But hey fans are going to be fanatic.

To NYR fan you have a high end talent there be happy and let him develop haters will hate .

Say what? If you mean a 4th from another year -- not Makar or Brady Tkachuk (just looking at the next two years)? If you mean someone else available at 4th in the same year -- not Matt Tkachuk, Nylander, Sergachev, McAvoy, Chychrun, etc?

I agree with your general sentiment though -- and it isn't helpful to second guess every pick and esp. mess them up with unrealistic expectations. Laf will be fine. Quite possible that he won't end up the best player out of his draft, and that should be fine too.

You wouldn't trade Puljujarvi for a fourth overall pick? Lmao.

Why would I . He is a prefect fit with McDavid . Book mark this . I bet you within 2 years you wouldn't either . I also will add if you disagree you must be stat watching . I am also a guy that was fine with the Hall trade . We should've gotten a little more but Hall wasn't anything special . Puljujarvi is a difference maker even if he doesn't show up on the score sheet .

:help: I must've been stat watching all these years. Homerism has a limit though...

Yakupov rode crazy percentages in his rookie year (so did RNH). It's likely over a full 82 games his numbers would have regressed.

Lafreniere will come out the best player of his draft. Please bookmark my post as you wish. Alexis Lafreniere will become a PPG player in this league real soon. People thinking otherwise don't what type of player he is. He's a winner, a professional and a heck of a hockey player. You win Cups with players like Laffy. Just wait and see.

People were quick to judge Nathan MacKinnon after his sophomore season when he hit a slump. It won't happen to Alexis. This kid will keep improving year after year until he's amongst the league's best. You can't break him.

I think he'll turn out just fine, but there are some other great players from the 2020 draft that might have something to say about it before it is all said and done. He certainly could be the best.

I at least like the conviction you speak with :thumbu:

Scores again. Ends the season with 21 points in 56 games. Thats a 31 point pace over 82 games, which is better than any of the 2019 draft-eligibles in their D+1 in the NHL. However, over his last 25 games he had 13 points. And his ice time only increased to top 6 his last 10 games where he had 7 points. Expect Lafreniere to be really good next season.

I read that his minutes were not huge and he got next to no PP time. Any truth to that?

for the most part yes. I watched every single game (except for a couple of periods this final week) and he pretty much received no relevant pp time. The pp1 unit ate up most of the time game in and game out (strome/Panarin/Zibby/Fox/Kreider). What was left for Lafreniere was about 20 seconds where the second unit barely got set up in the offensive zone. So yes I would say he got next to zero pp time.

He's going do be all right. Barkov only had 24 points his first season. Different kind of players but it's the same thing.
