Averaging 1:16 of PP Toi per game so he's definitely playing on the 2nd unit (if he even gets on at all during a given game) on a team with a fairly decent PP. I wouldn't be worried at all with his production, i think he will be just fine.

He also hasn’t been on the 2nd PP for about a month, if not longer.

Kakko and Laf will be fine..Both felt ready and somewhat kid cocky coming in,them being brought down a peg is a good thing for them...The problem for NY will be keeping them with a flat cap along with the other great young talent they have coming...

So thats a two point game, and it could've been more. He's been pretty good for the last 20 games, and he's done that without much ice time or PP time prior to the last few games. He's now on the first line, and second PP.

It's easy to compare him to Kakko, and there obviously are differences between their situations, but Lafreniere is definitely ahead right now of where Kakko was towards the end of his first season. Lafreniere has been an NHL'er all season. At the beginning, he maybe was more of a fourth liner who wasn't able to make much of an offensive impact. Recently, he's starting to make a bigger offensive impact, and he's getting a bigger role. If he can continue this for the rest of the season, I don't see why he can't come into next season in a top six role, and produce like a top six NHL'er.

Glad to see Lafreniere production picking up. From what I've seen, he seems to be quicker in his decision making and adjusting well to the speed of the NHL. I'm a bit surprise, he's only averaging 1,20 shot per game and only have 7 assists. He was a good playmaker in juniors. I guess he'll put more pucks to the net when he'll get more confidence in his game.

Lafreniere clearly proggressing as the season goes on, started off by showing flashes but being overall worse, then cut out the excessive stickhandling and trying to play those fancy saucer passes that were about knee high and got better all around, but bit invisible.

Now he is playing well all around as well as showing flashes.

Hopefully he sticks on the first line with Zib and Buch. As much as he benefits from playing with them the bigger benefit is getting to see Lindgren-Fox over Hajek/Bitteto/Smith/Johnson

But we were told neither had showed even 1/100 th of much as the HOFer Jack Hughes. Kidding.

Chytil has also secretly had a decent season all things considered.

Chytil has 19 points in 34 games. He doesn’t have any points that aren’t at ES. He’s playing the least he has in his career. Only about 13 minutes per game. I have gripes with his game. He sucks on face offs and his coordination is really bad, but his role compared to his productivity is indefensible. He should be on the PP instead of Blackwell. Next season he either needs to be in a top six role or traded. We aren’t maximizing his value currently.

He can improve on those things hopefully. Can't teach his speed and size though.

That was such a big goal. If we lost that game, the season was over.

Lafreniere has 10 points in his last 19 games. I think we see that it took him about 30 games to adjust, and once he did, he’s become what he was expected to be this season.

It's interesting to compare this season to his experience at the WJC.

At this first year at the WJC he was playing against an older competition, and he struggled. Following year he came in with experience and he started producing. We might see exactly the same thing in the NHL right now with him. I think he will pot 25 goals next year (if there is a full season).

It sounds a lot like the team believes the difference now is that he understands the work that brings success in the NHL. Quinn had a very interesting comment recently where he was, in essence, saying he wasn't working in the right way for what brings success in the NHL. He went out of his way to say it's not laziness, more that a guy who has easy success in junior hockey due to natural talent comes to a league where he's not going to be able to get by on pure natural talent, and that there was an adjustment with realizing how hard he needs to work, and how efficient he needs to work.

Also, working hard is not the same thing as working smart, and it seems like once he started working smart, he started making big improvements. I'm sure he initially worked hard once he saw the jump from junior hockey to the NHL, but then there was that extra 30 games to learning to work smart.

On the broadcast last night Joe Micheletti mentioned how Lafreniere directly after each game watches his shifts with assistant coach David Oliver, and they rate each shift on a scale of 1-3. That has apparently helped Lafreniere realize what he needs to be doing better than he was earlier in the season.

Yakupov had a good rookie season.

People keep saying this . No he did not . He scored some goalie when team like Vancouver clinched a playoff birth and was resting their regulars . Over 1/2 his 17 goals came at the end of the year .
