You guys realize that the CBA is on the Internet and you can search it fairly easily, right? All of this stuff is covered in Article 11.8 in the CBA.

Where does it cover what happen when a player waives his NMC (or NTC) in approval of a trade? (I actually know what happen, but can't find it in there.)

Also, maybe I missed some of the conversation, but I don't see a mention of Shattenkirk having a NMC or a NTC on his current contract

It doesn't cover that situation in the CBA because nothing changes. The player still has their NMC/NTC.

Shattenkirk by all accounts does not have a NMC/NTC for 2016-17. However per the CBA:
(b) A no-Trade clause or a no-move clause that is negotiated as part of an extension of an SPC entered into pursuant to Section 50.5(f) may become effective immediately upon registration of, but prior to the effective date of, such SPC extension, provided: (i) the Player would otherwise have been eligible as of the immediately preceding July 1 prior to signing the SPC extension to have a no-Trade or no-move clause pursuant to Section 11.8; and (ii) the Club and the Player, who are parties to such SPC extension, agree that the no-Trade or no-move clause is effective immediately upon execution of the SPC extension (or at some later date agreed to by the Club and the Player) and evidence such agreement in writing in the SPC.

As of July 1st 2016 Shattenkirk was age 27. So he would have been eligible to be a UFA for the 2016-17 season if he wasn't already under contract. Which means if he signs an extension he would meet the eligibility criteria to have an NMC/NTC retroactively start in the 2016-17 season.

IMO, there's no way Shattenkirk would sign an extension that does not include a retroactive NMC/NTC. If he were to sign an extension with an NMC/NTC going into effect starting the 2017-18 season or later then he runs the risk of being traded before the clause goes into effect and have that entire NMC/NTC voided. If the clause goes into effect retroactively then he can agree to any trade if he wishes while still retaining the NMC/NTC after the trade.
