If you’re Aquilini are you agreeing to pay like $1M for a 4th while the team is trying to compete?
Don’t see how retaining 50% on a $6M contract doesn’t net you at least a 3rd. And you’re using the 3rd as part of a larger package for top 6 upgrade.

If you play for the Canucks are you wondering why we didn’t use that cap space on a useful upgrade?
it’s deadline cap space anyways…. who and what exactly do you think is out there that we’d realistically fill up $16.2M of temporary space on? And spending assets for rentals when we don’t even have enough committed top 6 forwards on the team is the better route?

It’s similar to people expecting us to move Boeser even if we’re in a playoff spot. Competing teams don’t do that.
That isn’t true and that really hasn’t been managements MO anyway. Considering they were about to trade Pettersson last year if he didnt agree to a contract, we would’ve gotten Necas + to replace him (Colorado did this exact thing with Rantanen this year). if you get someone back that can replace Boeser (or again getting assets back to acquire a replacement), then that would obviously be the most logical move rather than losing him for nothing. Boeser is part of the core and our best goal scorer, losing him for nothing would be terrible.

And before you say Lindholm/Zadorov, keep in mind they were rentals with the expectation that there’s a high likelihood of them walking anyway or being too expensive to keep considering they were brought in as secondary pieces and they weren’t replacing any of the existing core.

Why not?

We’ll have a rested Hughes and a rested Demko. Along with Hughes being on a super low cap hit relative to production (maybe $9m below market).

If Petey can get it going, it’s as good as it’s going to get with this core.

Our 2nd and 3rd best defensemen are 27 and 28. Our new #2 centre is entering his prime.

This is clearly the time to decide to support the core rather than waiting until next year.

Nobody wins without going all-in.
I would argue that Hughes has been playing well all year and the team is fighting for the last playoff spot. I would argue the team needs at least 2 top 6 forwards and a 3lc before they are even close to contending for a cup.

That is probably a discussion for the summer. This season you could do a lot by acquiring another top-six centre and shifting Suter to wing.

I don't think paying extra in a market shortage would be a good idea for a team that lacks assets. A prospect pool that has few assets. No extra draft capital. A roster that has more than a couple of needs. Things don't often turn out well when dealing from a place of desperation.

Regardless of whether they succeed, it's been reported management is looking for a centre.

Watching the Canada v Sweden game last night I noticed that a switch turned on for EP40 in the second period. Afterwards he was a dominant player both defensively and offensively every shift and his coach started to play him more. By the halfway point of the third EP 40 was definitely ramping up his game.
That moment in the second, for whatever reason, the lightbulb went on for EP40. He’s going to excel going forward.

Of course they are. Raty is the best center prospect. Not even sure he's a center in the NHL. There's no one further in the pipeline because as I said yesterday Petey last center they drafted in the first 2 rounders. Suter isn't it. A first round pick this year is probably 3 plus years away.

The best thing to do would be to keep trading away the draft picks and futures that have put themselves in their current position.

Then don’t spent the cap space, I couldn’t care less if we bring in an extra mid round pick for helping another team try to win.

Management won’t trade Boeser if we’re in a playoff spot unless we’re somehow upgrading. Ban me otherwise @mods.

Random thought, pretty wild we have never had a Canadian superstar skater

edit: Bertuzzi's prime wasn't long enough to be considered a superstar imo. Had a superstar season tho

It's probably because our scouts are stupid and totally incapable of drafting anything decent in our backyard.

Ron Delorme was such a useless moron.

Boston is looking for a 2LW.

Garland and Mancini for Morgan Geekie and a 1st in 25'

Van gets a young 3LC right handed. Who's an RFA at season's end. He is better at face-offs than Suter and much bigger and more physical. Top 15 protected. Unprotected 26' 1st.

Lekkerimaki takes over for Garland one the left wing.

IIRC Benning did a giant reorg of the scouting staff at some point. I don't think he waited the table so much as moved chess pieces, lots of reassignments.

jews and muslims don't eat pork because people in the levant started keeping pigs in their yards and it made everything stink forever (because not enough rain) so the religious authorities made it taboo to eat pork so people would stop keeping pigs and keep cleaner animals instead
Pigs compete with humans for food and lack the additional benefits of cows or chickens, making them a luxury food source in regions where food is scarce. Additionally, pork spoils quickly, especially in warm climates, historically making it a risky choice for consumption. However, in wealthy Muslim countries today, these factors should no longer be concerns, yet people still follow such outdated rule...

I suppose all religions are, in a way, outdated and non-objective. Unfortunately, being a Canucks fan has become my own form of religion. Objectively, I know they have no chance of winning, yet I still hold out hope for a savior to turn the team around someday...

I keep seeing this clapping dude. What's the backstory here?
Joe Hendry.

Basically made himself from nothing into a viral star with TNA wrestling over the last year.

Started with his theme song going viral that he did himself.

Now is even showing up to WWE events on occasion.

Incredible story of belief and determination.

It's long, but highly recommend watching his interview with Ariel Helwani:
