Don’t see how retaining 50% on a $6M contract doesn’t net you at least a 3rd. And you’re using the 3rd as part of a larger package for top 6 upgrade. If you’re Aquilini are you agreeing to pay like $1M for a 4th while the team is trying to compete?
it’s deadline cap space anyways…. who and what exactly do you think is out there that we’d realistically fill up $16.2M of temporary space on? And spending assets for rentals when we don’t even have enough committed top 6 forwards on the team is the better route? If you play for the Canucks are you wondering why we didn’t use that cap space on a useful upgrade?
That isn’t true and that really hasn’t been managements MO anyway. Considering they were about to trade Pettersson last year if he didnt agree to a contract, we would’ve gotten Necas + to replace him (Colorado did this exact thing with Rantanen this year). if you get someone back that can replace Boeser (or again getting assets back to acquire a replacement), then that would obviously be the most logical move rather than losing him for nothing. Boeser is part of the core and our best goal scorer, losing him for nothing would be terrible. It’s similar to people expecting us to move Boeser even if we’re in a playoff spot. Competing teams don’t do that.
And before you say Lindholm/Zadorov, keep in mind they were rentals with the expectation that there’s a high likelihood of them walking anyway or being too expensive to keep considering they were brought in as secondary pieces and they weren’t replacing any of the existing core.
