@Stephen To me, it's more than just last years play with the Leafs. The year prior, he was the Marlies leader in SV %. He played four games for the Leafs, decent SV%, 3 wins, one loss. Last year, six wins, one loss.. Marlies last year he was 16-4-1... and a 0.927 behind an atrocious defensive team. Kallgren behind the same team was 0.883 for a similar number of games... and Petruzelli, the closest goalie to Woll, was .909. Even when you go back to Boston College, he just wins games, and ends up well ahead of the other goalies in SV%. Sure, it's early days for Woll, but he's been great at every level, and has shown well with his Leafs opportunities for two years now. I don't get behind too many prospects, or goalies, but I think he'll be something special.

I had said prior to last year, that it wouldn't shock me to see Woll take over the top spot... last year, and that was with two guys ahead of him.

Well, I’m cautiously optimistic about Woll and definitely cheering for him to succeed. He did have decently high pedigree coming out of Boston College. He was the heir apparently to Thatcher Demko and succeeded by Spencer Knight so they don’t mess around there. But all I’m saying is his development curve has been flat and he’s not that game tested for us to be penciling him in as the replacement for Samsonov just yet.

Ideally Sammy will be able to take the next step to prove he's a legit 1A starter rather than just a piece of a tandem.

I know his numbers weren't stellar vs Tampa, but he was incredible in that series IMO outside of game 1.

For ONCE we won a goaltending dual in the playoffs lol, only to run into one of the hottest goalies in the modern era...

I really hope Samsonov does well this year, I really do, but let's face it nobody, not even the Leafs themselves, have a clue how this guy is gonna perform.

Anybody who says otherwise is just fooling themselves.

If goalies are voodoo then what does that make an unproven injury prone Samsonov? The Leafs are playing Russian Roulette. With the most important position in the game.

This isn't a knock against Samsonov either.

This is a knock against a Toronto Maple Leafs team that continues to undermine their own best efforts. Every year they get "goalied" in the playoffs. And their answer is to go from questionable goaltending to even more questionable goaltending.

Samsonov, Woll, and Jones.

A hope, a wish, and a prayer. The three combined doesn't exhude much confidence. Hopefully one of these guys will perform to at least league average.

Whether that's gonna be Samsonov is anybody's guess.

Establishes himself as the franchise goalie for the next decade.

It would be around the age where goalies start to establish themselves. the guy is a legit #1, the question is is he going to be an elite #1 or a journeyman bounce around teams #1 on crappy teams?

I think some people do have an idea, maybe not fans but there are men who are much more versed in the art of goaltending that say this guy is one of the best up and coming goalie talents. The knock against him in Wash is he didn't live up to expectations, which as most of us know goalies can develop a bit later in life.

BTW when you get goalied it does not mean your goalie played bad, it means your shooters didn't score, your coach didn't adjust his game plan. Our goalies have played well enough in every series but two to win enough games to win the series. Our goaltending, in the playoffs, for the most part has not been "questionable" as you say. It's been quite good.

If It's the 2nd option then he isn't a legitimate #1.

There is no such thing as a journeyman #1

My expectations? Don't be complete and utter garbage.

Unfortunately those expectations haven't even been close to being met.
