Trading with the isles makes sense, they need wingers and we need D. I think something is likely to happen in the next 48hrs.

If the names involved in the rumors (Beauviller/Leddy) are coming to Montreal in the deal, I am very good with that. Another rumor had Ho-Sang included in the package along with Beauviller & Leddy.

Someone who can facilitate such a deal is Galchenyuk's agent Pat Brisson. He is also Tavares' agent and was apprently offered a front office job within the Isles' organization earlier this year that he turned down.

The thing about some of these younger guys like Miller, Schmidt, and Theodore, I wonder how their numbers will fare with more ice time. Especially for a guy like Colin Miller whose advanced stats are extremely impressive but his ice time is below a 3rd pair defenseman.

Neal is easily replaceable internally or via FA. Ellis or Ekholm are not.

Sign one of Marleau/Oshie/Radulov/Vrbata/Williams and everybody will forget about Neal.

I really like Neal. I'm also a big believer not to switch that kind of player for no reason.

Some of those names you mention are icky, man. The others will cost a lot more.

Of course guys like Ekholm and Ellis are not esy to replace. That's why you take the opportunity of trading where you have a strength and address a position of weakness. Especially when that allows you to protect 10 skaters instead of a measly 8.

That was the wrong move.

I was at work all day, so I've missed all the fun. That being said, looking at the deals and Vegas' roster, I'm a bit confused. They could have selected players, been really competitive right away and go way more at the deadline. They only got 2 1st round picks in this draft, so weird.

Well McPhee it will take a couple of years to judge but that draft and moves were very questionable....

Glad MB might have some competition in the league now lol

Confused about McPhee's strategy, but seems to suggest that he wanted to hit the cap floor, while icing a team that will likely be big players in the draft lottery.

Personally, I don't think MAF is anything special, though he had an amazing 2 rounds THIS year. He's being way overhyped. I don't think Pierre has calmed down about him yet.

I wouldn't want to deal with Vegas. There are only a few of their players worth targeting and they'll be greedy in the negotiations. Better choices are out there in other teams.
Not sure about being greedy but they have 12 forwards and 11 d-men who are waiver eligible.

It is like a big redistribution mechanism but in the end of the day VGK will want less players and more picks and prospects.
About picks, they have 6, 13, 15, 34, 45, 65, 96, 127, 142, 158, 161, 189.
Already 12 picks in 2017.

They will want prospects that can go through waivers and go to AHL especially in defense.
Methot, Garrison, Emelin, Stoner will be traded this summer or at trading deadline at latest. They still have 7 other NHL d-men.

Gusev looks pretty good to me BTW. 71 points in KHL just 5 points behind team mate Shipachev... Looks like Gusev is playing in LV.
TBL gave them the rights to Gusev and a 2nd so they would pick Garrison.

Lots of trades to come. Post expansion phase.

I would have just taken the best players and flipped them. Think about what they could have gotten for some of the players left unprotected. They would have still had a day to flip guys for picks in this draft.

Only the NHL would give the GM Of The Year award to the team that didn't win the cup , lol.

The Pens built a team of stars, under the cap, with little moves all year... and without Letang.. it's a no brainer who gets the award.. the cup winning team for christ sakes.

Why would Vegas want to be too successful too fast - i dont think they want to compete really for at least 3-5 years of maxing out their draft and trade positions

People really believed that Vegas was going to be competitive this season?

Yes it seemed to be widely believed that by selecting the ~5th or less best player from each team that they would form a legitimate powerhouse.

Okay, I don't think anyone actually said powerhouse.

Wow - congratulations! Remember - with babies as with prospects, it's all about development.

And 17 years later, you'll be at their high-school graduation ceremony, which is where I'll be tonight while missing the action here.

Well in 17 years the equivalent of what just happened would be hmm I don't know, some kind of early grad?!?

Water broke at 4 pm, in by 4h25 with baby out at 8h36. Kelly is sleeping now and Ottawa General has guest Wi-Fi lol... I just picked my first and only kid in the expansion draft of life *sips Tims*.

I see Emelin is a goner. Interesting. Wasn't Girardi actually solid against us in the PO this year? Can he be signed on the cheap?

Top 4 wise, I would sync a short contract for Girardi (or similar level D, whatever) with the short contract for Markov and fill #1 and #2 LHD spots again at expiry point with one prospect on ELC + one high quality UFA/RFA sign and trade, etc.

So that's cheap. Gotta get max cap room for offensive forwards to improve the top 6. Big fish.

It's GM of the year not GM for tanking 14 years ago. You said it yourself "little moves all year" what did he do to justify being gm of the year for doing nothing? That being said I don't know why the gms of the Oilers and sens were nominated either. Lucic? Adding guy boucher?

I agree.

Especially if you consider that the only first round picks he got were 2017 ones... from the draft everyone thinks is crappy. No potential lottery ticket for next year.

I like the deal he made with Anaheim for Theodore. And the deal with Winnipeg. Those made sense.

The Tuch deal was dumb... just take Dumba.. even Scandella would have been better. I don't like the deal he made with Colombus either. He took on a super bad contract AND stayed clear of certain players just for a 1st in 2017 and 2nd ?

But I'll reserve judgement until we see the 3-way trades this morning.
