Someone educate me on why Nash didn't do anything to keep James Neal?

His contract isn't bad. 20-30 goal scorer. He was NASH 3rd in goals for forwards thats a big piece of their offense no?

They couldn't find a team to trade with or did they really think LV would pass on him?

Bergevin needs to be blowing up McPhee's phone. Miller and TvR are already rumoured to be on the move, we're on Methot's no-trade list, so we need to go hard after Schmidt.

Might be a timing thing. A team acquiring Neal is likely say a top 10 team who likely has players they want to protect before acquiring another. Maybe want to keep there defense together? Maybe expect youngsters to take next step.

Just spitballing. But as it stands today its a hit but like with MTL (holes on left defense for example) its early in the offseason, depends who fills that void

I wouldn't want to deal with Vegas. There are only a few of their players worth targeting and they'll be greedy in the negotiations. Better choices are out there in other teams.

Habs should of taken him off their hands and exposed Shaw.

Seems like a pretty big loss to lose your 3rd highest goal scorer at forward for nothing.

Wonder how we could of got him for free hmmmm? :sarcasm::sarcasm:

Maybe they made trade him for Mac?:laugh:

Guessing his value is at least a top ten first rounder

No brainer for us, not sure Vegas does that.

According to the value of the trades tonight, they will not trade Theodore for a late 1st rounder

Add to that first rounder and make it happen! :)

Schmidt? Really? To play on the first pair?

I was at work all day, so I've missed all the fun. That being said, looking at the deals and Vegas' roster, I'm a bit confused. They could have selected players, been really competitive right away and go way more at the deadline. They only got 2 1st round picks in this draft, so weird.

Sure. That would be because Poile has decades of experience screwing up as a GM.

It was obvious the Preds needed to trade a defenseman as soon as the playoffs were over in order to protect 10 skaters instead of a pitiful 8.

They ended up protecting 4 forwards. Which is ironically what they need to improve.

No disagreement here. Tho guess it depends on what the read on Radulov is. I would assume MB has a read on it and Rads signs. Mtl are pretty deep on wing right now

Trading with the isles makes sense, they need wingers and we need D. I think something is likely to happen in the next 48hrs.

They have 3 first rounders and 2 2nd rounders this year.

1st: Vegas (6th) ; Winnipeg's (13th) ; Isles' (15th)
2nd: Vegas (34th) ; Tampa's (45th)

They even had amassed a 4th 1st round pick from Columbus (24th) but they traded it to Winnipeg afterwards.

Neal is easily replaceable internally or via FA. Ellis or Ekholm are not.

Sign one of Marleau/Oshie/Radulov/Vrbata/Williams and everybody will forget about Neal.
