There is only one way for Russia to reestablish their identity and that is by keeping their young players at home.

Stamkos is going to end up with his butt glued to the bench if he keeps taking bad penalties and not scoring.

Or... to have competent coaches?

I think Znarok is a good coach. The thing is, it's hard to get these players to mesh well, because most of the Russian forwards are nearly identical. Same strengths (stickhandling, speed, shot, creativity), same weaknesses (open ice players, two-way game, board battles, rarely crash the net).

Canada is the best by far because every single player on that roster is unique and each player compensates his linemates' weaknesses.

As a Russian fan I have to admit that games become much more enjoyable when I start rooting for the other team. Go Canada!

As always we have Malkin trying to solo and outshine Ovechkin as the latter is always heavily favourised even though he never contributes in important games, resulting in both players being worthless. Same story for the last 8 years or so (when they are both on the same team).:handclap:

Once again, I gotta agree with your analysis. Too many similar players. Maybe Russia should start developing other types of players.

Stop being so interesting, I might begin to like a Caps fan...

Kulikov and Marchenko aren't good at all.

This. Even Orlov look awful..... Markov-Emelin are by far the best Russian pairing tonight and Zaitsev is also playing well but he seem to avoid contact most of the time.

Anyone think that at least one of Provorov/Zadorov/Sergachev could have been at least better than Marchenko and Kulikov?

Surprised at the fact that the Russians aren't getting destroyed after two periods. Come on Canada, put into another gear and demolish them.

Oh, i think they have those types of players.
They just picked skill over those types.

:dunno:

Provorov and Sergachev look to be future outstanding D men. Those guys played over here, they are better right now than a couple guys in the lineup right now on D.

Super star mentality in the Russian national team is always fun to follow

better period by Russia , provided some push back at least....even had Crosby's line hemmed in for a shift...they were AWOL 5 on 5 in first period...seemed like ice was slanted puck was always in their end

"Well I see a wide open Larry Murphy at the side of the net."

Nice.
