Morgan Rielly is by far the worst defenceman on the ice tonight.....No business to be on this team.

He could bring more offense, but on a team like this and with the linemates he has, his playstyle is incredibly valuable though. His board work and breakout passes have been great.

Glad you noticed. We've been saying it for a long time, Nuge is a good two way player.

I thought trouba was good in the 1st game, but he took defensive role so he was boring which here means bad.
Looking at this game he should be on the lineup, he's one of the few who will also add physicality into the lineup that's needed against some of the top teams.

Nick Kypreos calling Team Europe having rich history and expecting them to show emotions and really care . Look when you're building wierd teams All-Star teams like this you're not getting anything but maybe some nice hockey.

I think he was eating a Jawbreaker from the gumball machine when he said that, if you look close.

He's really good at winning battles, getting the puck and making the first pass.

Needs guys who can make things happen after that.

Canada and USA will be able to handle the NA speed, and they might eat them alive physically and in the NA zone.

My thoughts as well. NA offense is not going to be able to work over the D of Canada and US like this, let alone get goals against Quick or Price (or whoever they use) like some of the ones Griess was letting in. And too much talent up front on US and Canada for NA to try to play this aggressively. Have no idea how NA will respond when faced with the physicality seen in the US-Canada games.

I'm really excited to see how it plays out.

At least the other D are out of position because they are try to create offense. Trouba will be out of position just to lay a hit.

Based on what? Have you ever watched him play? Sure sounds like you're confusing Trouba with his Jets partner from the last 3 years Mark Stuart.

Eichel is better than Larkin? why would Larkin play higher than him in the lineup.

Yikes. Eichel is an elite level player. Probably ends up being the 2nd or 3rd best on this team when their careers are all said and done

 I'd like to hear your reasoning

2 periods in - Eichel looking mediocre and Larkin looking pretty damn good. :handclap:

Reinforcing my earlier statement that Larkin should be on the 1st line with McDavid and Eichel should be centering the 4th line.

The Ghost-Parayko pairing is living up to my expectations. Ghost is so quick and shifty and Parayko is so fast and solid. They complement each other well.

Entire Team NA D credited with 2 hits so far. Trouba had 4 hits in game 1. I don't care so much about hits as a stat, but Team NA will get steamrolled in their own end by bigger and better teams than Europe if they don't play more physically in their own end. I love the pace and skill of Team NA, but you can't play like ringette in your own zone.

This. It's something they need to look into quickly. Heck Cze isn't the best team in the tournament but they are a tough team who doesn't hesitate to step up and fight and play physical (as shown in the two games against Rus).

It's very likely they will never play against each other. Team NA will have difficulty advancing from the group of death.

This is still a Preliminary game. Seems like Team Europe is starting to wake up. Didn't think they could be as bad as we have seen thus far. Interesting 3rd period to come.

The guy who was brought on in place of Trouba - Parayko - just offers more on the ice.

These guys are rusty right now though, I don't think this level of criticism is warranted at this point.

Pretty much. When you think about the current top NHL D for the most part they didn't hit elite status until they were older than this team allows. All of these defensemen have bright futures ahead of them but they aren't going to be equal to Doughty/Karlsson/Hedman/etc in this tournament

Yeah, exactly. The young forwards are seriously good offensively, but I don't expect a refined defensive game from most of them. That's even more true of the D. Good puck movement, and they'll create offensively, but defensively and in terms of making the right plays, that's all a work in progress.

Even below the elites of Doughty, Karlsson, and Hedman, I think there is another tier with true #1, but not necessarily elite ones. They'd be below them, too, IMO, if we're looking at current play.

Yeah I like the small details but I could see where it affects his offense and that's something you need out of your #1 center, probably a big reason he's struggled as a #1C, handling responsibilities at both ends of the ice. He'll be in a significantly better position as a #2C imo, perfect to slot in behind McDavid, Drouin and Mak have definitely made the most out of his plays though, something I don't think he gets too much of on the Oilers.

Dude you're in Vacaville? Used to live 45 minutes from there. I miss Sonoma! :(

It'll be fun to see Palat rocking some of these young guys though
