He can elect not to spend to the cap. As long as he does so I for one cant expect more financially.

His staff decisions are a whole ‘nother story.

I expect him to get the Bruins some decent ice to play on, though. All that money he's saved himself by getting a salary cap implemented can damn sure upgrade the ice plant and probably not even cause a twitch. The cap is now what it is, so you are right, as long as he spends to it, there is nothing really to criticize that way. I am not going to give him props for doing it any more than the Rags and Leafs should get props for spending far less than they can afford on a roster. They all should be spending to the cap every season.

LOL.

The cap is bad for the Bruins. That's why Jacobs loves it. He can "spend to the cap" and get praised for doing so, even though the cap is well below what the Bruins can afford.

Not really though. The cap's good for the league. You have to structure your teams differently though. You can't just load up on expensive veterans, you have to have a mix of them with cheap young talent on their rookie contracts. Bruins have kept trading the future away for "this year" each deadline, and it's got them close, but in the end you pay for that.
There are only 2 problems with the cap and you can say Tampa to both of them (and now Vegas). Cheating with the LTI status a la Kucherov and now Stone and the disparity state tax laws allow for (eg. Florida players take lower salaries due to the state tax breaks). Those 2 issues need to be corrected for true equality but equality in money in the league is a good thing.

I’m not sure about over rated. Everyone knows what he did.

From the Athletic's James Mirtle on Ondrej Kase. It's a great read if you can get it about concussions and Kase's strange journey through them.

The Ondřej Kaše story: A path through hell and back, one hockey hit at a time

Truth be told, almost no one remembers the hit.

It was more than six years ago, in the minors. A young forward lugging the puck up the ice, trying to break into the offensive zone. A defenseman getting a little overzealous with his elbow, after the puck was dumped in behind him.
Nothing particularly unusual. Or memorable.

But Ondřej Kaše can’t fully forget, as much as he’d like to. Not when that hit has led him to here, where every play could mean the end of his career. Where he’s missed more than 40 percent of the games since coming to North America as a teen.
“Yeah,” Kaše says, with a heaviness in his voice. “It was my third game.”

He was 19. He was selected 205th out of 2010 players in the 2014 NHL Draft and had beaten incredible odds to get that far that fast. As a seventh-rounder from Kadaň, Czech Republic, a town of 18,000 outside of Prague, few would have expected he would even get an NHL contract, let alone be playing a rung below the big leagues right away.

But Kaše was (and is) a battler, a player who always plays full out, no matter the situation. While not overly big, he was feisty. He seemed tailor-made to at least fill a bottom-six role, battling in the corners for loose pucks.

The Anaheim Ducks scouts saw that when they took a flier on him late in that draft. And they wanted him in the AHL as a kid, to develop in their program in San Diego.

Then, the hit

I recently popped into the FL Panthers stat board to check out Joe Thornton.
Looks to have played about 1/2 of their games.
Anyone know if he has been injured or just a healthy scratch.
If not his last chance, has to be close for the cup.
His stats are great, so I would expect him to pick up his play for the playoffs.
I don't think he raised his level of play in his other late round playoffs.

The Red Wings signed defenseman Steven Kampfer to a one-year deal worth $750,000 for the 2022-23 NHL season. Kampfer was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the 4th round, 93rd overall, of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. However, after three years at the University of Michigan, he signed his entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins in March of 2010 after being dealt for a conditional fourth-round pick.

Have the Bruins announced when they will retire Chara's jersey? If I can, I would like to plan a trip down for that game.
