Svechnikov -

Struggled in the first game but I'd like to see more -
Now this guy has skill - but needs to execute better.
Maybe that's the wrong describer - maybe better decision making is a better way to put it.
At least that's what I see from my recliner
He did take a same day flight to Anaheim. Probably a little tired.

yeh, that's what I hear -
But is it skill if it doesn't translate at a higher level (NHL)?
Or are we back where we started - potential skill :naughty:

Maybe it is potential. Maybe it has been 'developed' out of him. He has been very good, at times; 5 pts in 6 games in the A last year, 8 in 10 in Liiga last year and 39 in 44 in Liiga in D+1. Otherwise, some occasional flashes here and there. Maybe he can't walk and chew gum at the same time. You can either get a checker who can't score to save his life or you can have a moderately good offensive player who can't play defense.

If he can ever combine those we might have a decent replacement for Copp, but less offensive than Appleton.

Truly hoping he makes something of himself here, injuries really screwed him and he has talent but he missed quite a bit of development and playing time when he was first drafted that might have taken its toll

Will be interesting to see how it shakes out

6 minutes.
Goose eggs.
Don't think he'll be up much longer unless someone's hurt.

It’s just Maurice style. Unless you’re one of his guys and make it into the top 9, you’re going to get 6-8 mins a night on the 4th line with some plugs. (this years edition is Riley Nash)

It would definitely be interesting to see the Dubois line stay as it is once 26/55 return. Bump Wheels to the 3rd (won't happen obviously) and keep Copp and Ehlers with Scheifele.

Edit - speak of the devil, Wheeler is back

I honestly think that wheeler with PLD and Connor would work better as PLD doesn't cheat as bad offensively.

I was hoping to see him play on that line for a couple more - looks very unlikely now

it seems like every year there's players that are former 1st rd picks of the past ~5 or so years that don't get qualified and turn into UFAs, OR available for "buy-low" trades for w/e reason (look at J. Dahlen from SJS for example)

Svech has been solid here. i don't think he's doing anything spectacular in the top-6, or anything inherently unique, however he certainly doesn't look out of place there and is producing admirably (0.5 ppg, 5th on the team in 5v5 pts/60).

going back to my first point - i hope this is something the Jets do more often. finding those recent 1st rders and giving them opportunities, rather than the letestu, borque, thompson, or lewis signings. the former just has more upside in my eyes, and those youngsters have a "something to prove" factor too.

Agreed, I had been wanting the team to take a chanced on a reclamation project for a while now. They don't always work out but it's really a very low risk/cost move that can pay off.

Looks like it is here for us. Svech doesn't have to be star or even a driver to be effective. He just needs to keep complimenting his linemates well.

I have liked him here but sometimes I wonder about is decision making with the puck. Nothing horrible, just a minor observation. That said, at times he seems to draw the opposition toward him which creates space for KC & PLD.

It looks like he is having fun out there so can't help but like that as well.

What I've noticed is when he makes a mistake with the puck, he busts his ass to cover up for it. He could teach 55 that skill.

He's usually on the right side of the puck, and he uses his size very well.
