Certainly the second half of the shortened AHL season was much better that the first, and he's making good progress, but geez, it's some amazing amount of hype. Same people/press that hyped up Cholo. (I'm not comparing Seider to Cholo though, Cholo sucked from day 1, I called it.)
I am excited about one thing, getting to watch a player in red hitting someone. I can't remember a single decent hit from last season, the last good one was Bowey on Marchand 2 seasons ago.
We'll se what happens when he gets his 9 NHL games this season. Then we'll be able to get a better judgement. Until then, it's just hype.
It's not "just hype". Your comparison to Cholowski literally holds no water for multiple reasons that I won't get into here.
A couple of factors to consider when looking at what Seider is doing:
- he has changed leagues multiple times and impressed everywhere (DEL, AHL, SHL), these are pro leagues where success have a good translation rate to NHL
- when given the opportunity to play against his peers at the WJC he was absolutely dominant even despite being on a weaker team
- coaches trust him with icetime in a different way than most 18-19 year old players, he's logging over 2 minutes more at ES than any other U20 player in the SHL (guys like Broberg, Björnfot), and is actually 11th in the entire league for ES TOI/GP. You don't instantly become top pairing on the best SHL team if it's all hype.
- the eye test completely backs up any hype for Seider, imo the more you see of him the more you see how consistent he is in all the things that matter (defense, reading the play, outlet passes etc)
- he's got league-best caliber advanced stats so far in SHL
- while his shot and overall offensive ceiling remains the biggest questionmark, he has completely eradicated concerns that he doesn't have offensive ability
Seider isn't a "we need to see 9 NHL games from him" type of prospect. He's a "make him an NHL regular as soon as possible" type of prospect.
