Just like tonight showed, when JT Miller is on, there’s no player in the league quite like him.

Just a pure power forward, but with amazing playmaking ability.

This is why it’s such a risk trading him especially because he was this good in the playoffs

Miller has the NMC and I think it's harder to get the best return in this case. Pettersson's NMC kicks in July so all of us know that the offers the Canucks get from now till draft day would be enormous. They would have several trade offers to evaluate and also create a bidding war.

So you just want all of our defensemen? Power is a 1 for 1 for EP or no dice so I would take him out of the equation. It is Byram+Cozens for sure.

I would do 1 of Byram/Cozens and Kulich Joker + 2026 first. Preferably anyways. I really think it settles on Byram+Cozens and maybe a 2026 first.

Byram and Cozens is a solid offer. That's 2 very solid young assets for 1. Adding a 1st on top? Doubt it. If a team offers the Canucks both a young D and and young C (still with growth to come), that's going to really get the Canucks attention.

The Vancouver media is 90% of the problem for the Canucks. They’re not happy unless there’s some soap opera going on, they can talk about 24/7. Poor Demko had to have a talk with the press last year, just to say he hadn’t even talked with his family about ever wanting a trade, leaving Vancouver, his marriage effecting his commitment, etc, etc.

This entire Petey/JT thing is no different than we see in most locker rooms. Yzerman despised Fedorov’s commitment sometimes. They won 3 Cups together, in spite of things. Gretzky wasn’t loved by everyone in Edmonton. The list goes on and on.

For whatever reason though, the Vancouver media has become the TMZ of the NHL. Normally it’s just pick the nearest American to blame everything on, but they love themselves some player vs player drama even more.

The worst part is, it’s a great city, province and fanbase to play for. It’s just too much sometimes. At least Garland and Boeser are getting an extended break, after all the Demko BS last season and now the JT/Petey soap opera this season.

Can someone pls summarize what's the issue between Miller and EP40, I've seen this stuff float for months but it seemed to be rumors/innuendos etc instead of facts. So is there something concrete why they don't like each other?

I don't know how to value these players until I understand what's going on, I'd assume the GMs around the league might be extra careful around these two.
Miller went full McDavid and told Pettersson to “dig in”. Pettersson waved him off.

No facts that there is any issue between them, it’s just drummed up media talking.

It’s really not even the Vancouver media, it’s the national guys like Friedman who have been the biggest proponents of putting gas on the fire. Bottom line, Vancouver is a sizeable market that gets clicks, especially when it comes to controversy.

I still think Miller is the more consistent player than Pettersson. I don't watch every Canucks game but the games I have seen, Miller is always a threat to score or make a play.

Everyone sees the skill Pettersson has and he's younger. It's easy to peg him as the better asset but Canucks have a team to manage and I would not wish this on anyone. Miller appears to want to be in Vancouver (I agree there) and he has a NMC which makes it a bit more difficult to get the best return. Pettersson's NMC kicks in July I believe so yeah, I can see why the Canucks are open to moving one or the other and would probably move Pettersson if the return is right for their team.

Only thing I wonder about is if Pettersson wants to be in Buffalo? They just went through a rough situation with Eichel who wanted out so I think they would want to know if Pettersson is open to Buffalo before they would engage in trading for him. Problem is the Canucks might say, too bad, trade for him or don't... you can't talk to him.

Whoever trades for Pettersson (if traded at all), has to have confidence he wants to be on their team. Because after July 1st, the NMC kicks in and then Pettersson controls his faith. Not impossible to move NMC's but not ideal.
Petey has no trade protection until July 1. Whether he likes Buffalo doesn’t matter. He has a nhl contract worth millions, he will report to whichever team has his rights

You missed the point. Look at it from the Sabres side of things. They went through a rough ride with Eichel and I'm pretty sure they would like to know if Pettersson would be happy in Buffalo. It's a massive talent to trade for and a massive contract (like Eichel's). Last thing they want is to trade big assets and then find out 2 years later that he wants out. Then you got a NMC you have to manage out for the best return you can get.

JT is annoyed because there's a "soft euro" making more money than him.

In an article by Josh Yohe at The Athletic, it was reported that the Canucks were offered Zibanejad for Miller earlier in the season but turned it down

Speaking of Vancouver, there is plenty of chatter out there about Pittsburgh-area native J.T. Miller.

Earlier this season, the Rangers offered struggling center Mika Zibanejad to Vancouver in return for Miller.

The Canucks turned down the offer.

It’s no secret that the Rangers are very interested in Miller, who was drafted by New York in 2011 and played his first six NHL seasons there.

That's not exactly surprising, Miller's worth a lot more.

That guy begs to differ.

Miller is a rare player though.

Both players have a NMC. This is much deeper than just a "turned it down" reply. Canucks deserve better than Ziby if they trade Miller but I doubt Ziby waives for Vancouver.

Zibby's contract is not ideal. He's clearly slowing down at age 31 and is signed till age 37. Not a contract you want in return if you trade Miller anyways.

Rangers are so interested in Miller that their best reported offer was to exchange him for Zibanejad. Damn they must really want him bad.

Rangers are stuck. They want to move the overpaid deadweight that is aging for improvements but there are too many NTC's and NMC to overcome. Look how long it took to move Trouba.

Miller likely waives for the Rangers but who's waiving to go to the Canucks? Rangers probably want to keep their youth so you can count out Lafreinere and anybody close to his age.

Seems difficult to find a fit that works for both sides.

Realistically what team could beat an offer of Dylan Cozens & Bowen Byram? Not saying the Sabres will offer it, but You get two super young , good players already somewhat established with definite room to grow and take their game to the next level. I’ve always been a huge cozens guy and think he’s definitely going to pop off when in the right situation (like Jack, Sam, ror ect.) I just don’t think any other team could pony up an offer like that without including prospects and picks
