I bet there will be such teams, of course not all of them, but look at the proposals in this thread, there are some pretty good ones. Moreover, according to rumors, it should be 3-4 parts, as I understand it.
3-4 is a quantity futures trade typically: 1st, 2nd, top prospect, roster player. As a Sabres fan, I can assure you that you want less parts back and more quality. You are not getting Cozens, Byram, Helenius, and a 1st. Maybe you get Cozens, Byram, and Ostlund. MAYBE the 2026 first is in play instead of Ostlund. For me it is Byram Cozens. I will add Ostlund (if Helenius is the play or we lose out I do it) or the first because I want change. Even though VAN GM is saying there is no trade requested, there is something fishy in the water over there and EP has some baggage, both of which could hurt value a bit.

Well, that's what I said, maybe Byram + Cozens won't be enough, so we'll have to add a third part in the form of a pick or prospect.

I think people sleep on Byram, his value is massive. High 5v5 production and doesn't get PP time here.

Also has a history of concussions, needs a new contract and apparently wants the role of 1D and PP1. Tough situation, the only thing is he is from British Columbia.

What he wants is not what he is, or what he is worth. If VAN thinks he is a top pairing PP1 defenseman as well, then match made in heaven.

Maybe, but I don't know if it's the truth or if he just wants to leave Buffalo. Adams should figure it out and make a decision.

One thing the Canucks definitely do not need is a top pairing PP1 defenseman as we have one of the best in Captain Hughes. I like Byram a lot but he and Cozens and any throw in will not be enough to land Petey. I do think the Canucks are going to move Miller and I think when all is said and done, Rangers and Canucks complete a deal (sth around Miller and Hoglander for Kandre and Zibanejad (plus other pieces)). I just hope it happens sooner than later so the "drama" stops.

Seems like JT will be the one to go. EP40 faced the music in the media today, saying he understands he hasn't lived up to expectations and doesn't want to leave Vancouver.

If you actually think Cozens+Byram is not enough value, you are crazy. You call a SABRES first round pick a throw in?

Canes reportedly offered Necas + Kotkaniemi + Morrow + 2025 1st Rounder before EP was signed long term.

With him locked up, I'd imagine a similar package is available, especially since Necas has come back down to earth lately.

I think Vancouver should strongly consider this offer. It gives them a mix of everything. Some win-now players, some youth and some futures.
Yeah, that package was the rumored one the Canes offered from what I recall.

I think since Necas came back down to Earth recently as you put it, it makes considering him easier as a big trade piece for EP. Before that, almost everyone would've said no even for EP.

I think a lot of Canes fans on our board, and myself included, would have a hard time letting go of Morrow though (not saying I'm against it but that's tough). In no small part due to the fact that we will need a highly skilled right-handed defenseman in the very near future once Burns retires. He's a highly touted prospect obviously. If I were the Canes, I'd offer any prospect not named Nikishin or Morrow and see how Vancouver feels. We have some other good prospects that might interest them.

However, while Necas has come back down to Earth, Pettersson isn't doing as well this season as he has before; so he's kind of come back down to Earth too. Kind or relevant for a contract as hugely expensive as his. I wonder if that would alter what Carolina offered before for EP.

It's debatable when you compare it to the Tkachuk trade.

Tkachuk was a bit younger and not in the middle of a slump, but Pettersson plays the more valuable position/role as a two-way center.

Not to mention Huberdeau was a much better asset than either Byram or Cozens before he was traded as a 100+ point winger. Weegar and Huberdeau were older than the Byram and Cozens but better players and then you have the 1st + B prospect on top.

Add in Byram's concussion history and it's easy to see why the Canucks wouldn't be enamored with just Cozens and Byram for Pettersson.

If you see Pettersson as a depleted asset currently, you're entitled to your opinion, but there's no chance the Canucks are treating him like that when negotiating trades.
