GDT: Everybody Wants to be Up, It's All Uphill from Here: Your New Jersey Devils @ Pittsburgh Penguins, 3 PM, ABC/ESPN+

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I think the team is in a good spot standings wise. 8 points over the line (going to be 6 tonight after the NYR vs. CBJ game) and 3-1 in their last 4. They're in a pretty good spot. They just gotta keep pushing.
They aren’t in a bad spot, but don’t look at pure points. Rangers have 2 games in hand and Columbus 3. Obviously one of those games in hand come back tonight. But a Rangers OT win tonight would hurt.

Markstrom needs to figure it out. I'm not going to trash the play before his injury, he was a high level goaltender going into the injury, but he has to let the team know if his injury is still lingering. He has been awful with some basic stuff

This game was totally winnable and probably should have been a close one, despite the mistakes that led to those plays.

I agree, but overall I feel like they're in a fine spot.

I actually have no idea what scenario helps us more tonight lol.

Maybe if someone demands he do it.

Sheldon Keefe showed he didn’t really have much of a clue with the Samsonov stuff last playoffs before Woll got hurt. He went to Woll when it was too late. It may not have been too late if Woll didn’t get injured before the game they were eliminated in and he had no choice but to go to Samsonov, but he made his bed with Samsonov earlier in the series.

The fact he wasn’t pulled after goal 3 was a bad sign.

Goal 4 was bad enough that he could have pulled him that late in the 3rd.

I’m not reading into Markstrom not being pulled. They have a critical game Monday, Allen just played Thursday. You let the goalie eat it today.

I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS! THIS GAME WAS COMPLETELY ON MARKSTROM!

EVERY. SINGLE. GOAL. FROM. THREE. TO. SEVEN. WAS. BAD.

Other than the the empty netter that was he on the bench for. And he probably would have allowed a goal if he were in net for those minutes lol.
I was gonna say, did Keefe go nuts leaving the net empty for the last two lol, I turned it off at 5-3

He allowed the softy of the night after the empty net goal. Where he tried to catch a weak shot and it dribbled in.

This game was a Cory Schneider game straight out of March of 2018, but as I keep saying, that's probably an insult to Cory Schneider, as Markstrom has been significantly worse than even Cory was when he returned from the injury in March of 2018.

Markstrom March of 2025 will soon overtake Cory's March of 2018 for the new barometer of trainwreck goaltending.

Markstrom's numbers since returning from injury are literally as bad as Vitek's 2023 playoff numbers.

There’s a reason he has bounced around as much as he has.

I appreciate he has offensive skills and instincts, but I’ll happily sit him for Haula next game as well.
Never should have tinkered with lineup after last game at all. And that includes the friggin goalie. You win you run it back. Leaf fans used to complain that keefe always overthinks things

Yeah, at 4-2 it was probably too late because that was in the 3rd. But it was evident at the beginning of the 2nd period that Markstrom was shot to shit today and not gonna get it done.

It was highly predictable that if the team somehow came back he was just gonna keep putting them down another. And he did exactly that.

Allen needs to start against the Jackets. This was a trap game coming off a huge win versus the Oilers and a big game with the Jackets coming up. Team needs to focus.
I was a little shocked when Allen started against Edmonton.

I wonder if that was because Markstrom is literally a blow up doll against the Oilers? Or maybe it was because Allen got the shutout against them in November. I don't know.

It proved to be a good decision.

Markstrom should get no special treatment whatsoever after this.

''But we gave up a first for him! We need to use him!''

f*** that shit, he's pacing to ensure that our pick we gave up is a non-playoff range first rounder to Calgary. If it helps not using him and not giving up a top-15 pick for him then just don't use him.

Wait they gave up a 7th goal? haha I turned it off after the empty net.

Honestly, give up even more bad goals when it really doesn't matter at all.
