GDT: Everybody Wants to be Up, It's All Uphill from Here: Your New Jersey Devils @ Pittsburgh Penguins, 3 PM, ABC/ESPN+

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

if you have a good defensive system you don’t need a goalie like markstrom - look at the numbers daws and allen have put up. and logan thompson in washington. or stanley cup winner adin hill in vegas.

fitz overcorrected because he couldn’t identify what the actual problem was (though vitek was actually bad). markstrom had an amazing run in january but look at how our goalies played when he was out and you can see that we didn’t need to bid against ourselves to get him.

outside of the goals today could have been some of the worst rebound control i’ve seen in a while

This was the game that got Cory Schneider banished until we clinched a spot

It really feels like today could have been that for Markstrom. Good god.

I think there's reason to believe he's struggling because of the injury.

But that's on management and the coaches and goalie department (Keefe and Rogalski, Marty, Clemmensen etc) to identify.

1-4-0

.828% save percentage!

That makes Cory's .862% and 0-4-0 March of 2018 look not so bad. That was enough to sit him until a playoff spot was clinched.

Markstrom has barely made 100 saves on 122 shots lol.

The positive is that not long ago I thought for sure we were not even making the playoffs. I do have some hope now. But without Jack every single member of this team needs to step up their game.

Honestly, Markstrom's numbers have to be in the toilet after this one. Both raw stats and analytically. I bet he's just barely above breaking even.

Oh wow Bratt tied the assist record. Took a hell of a long time, somehow even in our best years with some great players they never got there.
At least we have THAT 'cause everything else in this game, especially with the Goaltending (and the less-than-stellar Defense) was not so good (to be kind).

As I said, the team is 3-1 since adding Glass, which helps tremendously. 3-1 since the deadline. Today sucked, but overall I don't think the skater group gave up that much.

Hopefully they're fired up Monday, but even Monday isn't a do or die game at all, especially if the Rangers beat them tonight.

Overall, they're in a pretty good spot here.

That 7th goal was really bad, wow.
He looked like he wasn't even trying at that point. I actually felt bad for him.

I won't feel bad for him if he gets shelled on Monday night. He shouldn't be in on Monday night.

If you can't play Allen for some reason they need to play Daws.

This game particularly deserves a benching, if none of the prior 4 did.

yeah if he’s still injured he should not be playing period. we didn’t need him back because we were getting excellent performances in his absence. not sure if he was rushed or if he is fully healed but we can’t play him if he’s going to perform like this in a playoff race

I think the team is in a good spot standings wise. 8 points over the line (going to be 6 tonight after the NYR vs. CBJ game) and 3-1 in their last 4. They're in a pretty good spot. They just gotta keep pushing.

It sucks this is how this game ended up, but taking 6 out of 8 points this week was crucial. Especially the Columbus game. That has to be the type of standard we need the rest of the way.

I didn’t like our play at even strength today, but Markstrom really didn’t help matters either. Start Allen next game, he’s earned it.

the home/road splits help us a lot because i think the home crowds have been electric the past couple games.
