I seen this argument falsely made about internal replacements so many times. We do not have any internal options for replacing Evans at the moment. This ask is pretty reasonable from Evans camp. I’d sign him tbh.

They may be ready for NHL roles but they aren't ready to replace Evans. The simple truth is that the best thing for Beck's development is to have a guy like Evans around who can carry that defensive load so that Beck can be put in situations where he will succeed and develop.
Right Beck needs Evans for his development.
Beck developing just fine right now is actually proof that Evans is actually a big help. He's developing well right now WITH Evans, we can't say for sure how he would be developing without Evans, but without question he has an easier time with Evans taking the hardest minutes.
Doing good in the AHL, and then didn't look out of place in his 9 games sampler. All that by developing on his own !

You are talking crap. If you told me Evans has played are part in helping develop Heineman I would automatically have to agree with you. As far as throwing Beck to the wolves I don't see it. His line has been far more responsible and is not losing us games like it has been for most of this season. Don't confuse what is happening out there. Evans is playing a 2C role with 2C icetime. Beck is playing a 4C role with 4C icetime and his only job is to graduate up the ladder based on his own play exactly like Nick Suzuki had to do. We need a 2C not a 4C it's completely obvious or at least should be. Evans has exactly zero influence on what happens with Owen Beck.

You don't see Beck being thrown to the wolves because Evans is on the team taking those minutes. You seem to have a very simplistic/childish view of things. If we were to go out and get Crosby the biggest beneficiary would probably be Suzuki even though they would have limited ice time together.
I'm talking about the need of re-signing Evans for 5 years I'm not talking about what happens in the immediate. If HuGo decide to hold then they'd better damn well add or I'll be completely pissed. If they don't add a true 2C this off season I'll also be completely pissed. The most important thing we need to do is ADD not simply tread water by over paying a role player.
