Hate to derail the thread here, but, the Vanek "fleecing" was more of a myth than reality. At the time of the trade you could very well say "the Islanders got fleeced". Now, not so much.

Original trade was...

Moulson
1st rounder in 2014 or 2015 (Lehner/Legwand)
2nd rounder in 2015. (Brendan Guhle)

for Vanek.

Moulson was traded for Torrey Mitchell and a 2014 2nd (Vaclav Karabacek) and a 2016 2nd which was traded for Josh Gorges. Mitchell was then traded for Jack Nevins and 7th rounder.

So we have the following lineage.

Thomas Vanek

For

Robin Lehner
Dave Legwand
Brendan Guhle
Jack Nevins
Vaclav Karabacek
Josh Gorges
Vasily Glotov

Just curious where you see a fleecing there?

I think if he continues, Guhle alone is a win. Anything else just enhances it for the Sabres.

There is no chance that Tim Murray is taking a call from an out of town reporter and telling them what he would take for a player.

That is tampering.

Not if they said a player like Sbisa it's all semantics and grey area BS. I'm sure they danced around it and used the words hypothetically speaking, to make sure there wasn't any wrong doing.

Tanev is likely not seen as great by Benning since he thinks analytics are a joke. And may very well see Kris Russell as a replacement for Tanev. Seeing as the ownership want to win now, trading the non sexy defenseman for 2 flashy forwards and an offensive defenseman looks amazing if you ignore anything but the stats.

Likely idea trade:

To VAN:
Ennis
Kane(1mil retained)
Franson(50% retained)

To BUF:
Burrows
Tanev
and a 2018 5th (continues Benning's strange need to add late picks to every trade)

Who are you trying to joke with that justification, yourself? Tanev is not available.

I'd feel bad for any team/community that Evander gets traded into. Prefer to just void his contract and let some team take an unencumbered risk.

The idea that a Sabre official speculated to a reporter that they might take someone "like" anyone for Kane is among the most patently ridiculous things I've seen. Almost as bad as your initial post that didn't have the qualifier.

You are either making this up or drastically misunderstand what the reporter said. I suspect the former.

The exact quote is around 7:30. That his contacts in Buffalo specifically suggested Sbisa to him.

He almost certainly means Sabres beat reporters like himself.

Comments on this thread:

Tanev is indeed an elite defensive defenseman. He's the posterboy for the new NHL shutdown Dman. Absolutely zero offense coming from him but that's not what he's designed for. Break up rush, retrieve puck, distribute puck efficiently to forward, repeat. He's 2 seasons away from being publicly acknowledged as an elite defenseman. He's taken 20 penalties in almost 300 games. That's staggering.

Kane could very well be traded to Vancouver. Extremely high interest from the Canucks, the Pres basically said as much in a recent interview. Not a chance Tanev goes the other way. Sbisa could be the piece, or potentially a deal around Virtanen if the value is higher than we suspect. I'd be shocked if he stayed a Sabre for this upcoming season.

Tanev vs Larsson. I don't watch enough of Larsson to comment on the eye test, but the analytics are very much in favour of Tanev as far as I'm aware. I would expect the Larsson deal to be very comparable to any Tanev deal. It's a shame he's on such a brutal team, although I suppose the same could be said for Larsson. I'll be watching Larsson a lot this upcoming season to settle my own internal debate.

Too bad you missed the post in this thread that proved it. I think it was page 6 at the bottom or you could use the internet, it's a useful resource.

Sabres fans, be prepared for heart break.

We had the same thing with Kassian where we thought we'd get someone comparable in value on paper, but off ice issues sunk Kassians value to a cap dump.

Kane has at least proven some goal scoring ability in the league, but he is not the centre piece for a top pairing D.

A conditional 7th round pick in 2019?

His case hasn't been taken up by the courts. There is a chance he could be expelled and barred from entering the US.

Why would you even want Evander Kane on your team? He's a mess.

The condition being he doesn't get arrested by then you would get the pick.
