I'm not sure you understand what I was proposing. I was proposing that they sign the 1 year bridge deal and the extension both this summer giving him an extra year and more guaranteed money. I was unaware that you couldn't extend a 1 year contract until January. Which makes sense.

That's pretty bad optics if you put it that way. Trade a top pairing D for a 2nd round pick in order to fit another top pairing D at 11M. Now if Buffalo came calling and asking for Ekholm for Peterka. You gotta do that deal.

I'm not talking about using Nurse as a benchmark I'm asking why Bouchard would take less than Nurse when Bouchard is a significantly better player and his peers like Fox, Werenski and Dahlin all make more.
Bouchard is miles better than Nurse. If we lock him in at $10 million AAV x 8 years he will be a bargain within the first 2-3 years of the deal.
I understand it's not Bouchard or his agent's job to look at the salary cap and take according to it, but I sure hope he does look and try to meet somewhere where the numbers are beneficial to him and the Oilers and not just want one way street for himself like 11M.
