Player Discussion Evan Bouchard

Low-hanging fruit or not...LOL at the bolded.

Your problem with ignoring not just advanced stats but seemingly all stats while putting complete faith in your (questionable) memory and eye test, is that your bias takes over and you only remember Bouchard's blooper reel plays while forgetting their irrelevance in an 82-game sample size. One of your problems is that you isolate and describe (not always accurately) specific plays to attempt to prove your point, while ignoring the broader picture. None of us can recall every single play from every single game and process all of that data to arrive at a conclusion. The eye test is crucial, no doubt, but you can't leave statistics entirely out of the equation.

Given how often Bouchard played and had the puck, especially relative to his peers, he was hardly a turnover machine, yet this was the perception fostered by the media and many people on here. Skinner had objectively bad performances that failed both the eye test and the numbers, yet everything was seemingly Bouchard's fault in the eyes of the media because one blooper reel giveaway leading to a goal against would cover for all of the weak goals where there was no excuse.
First off, to the bolded. Nope. Not true and nice try. There are definitely ppl who judge him cuz of those plays cuz they hyper focus only on them. It's why all year he's been referred to as polarizing.
I am not one of those ppl, so don't try and lump me into that. I can recognize both simultaneously. I don't ignore stats, as i said, i just laugh how they are misrepresented here most often.

You know those "advanced stats" you're gushing over? You know alot of those came during games like Vegas and St Louis this year. Alot of favorable plays those games which lead to positive stats, while simultaneously losing us the games with some horrific reads and decisions. Clearly there is an order of importance in games like this

Funny, you accuse me of being bias but it's starting to feel like maybe it's not me who's being bias here.. Just sayin

I'm not seeing your point here. Those are two playoff teams, one of which finished ahead of us in the standings. Are you trying to diminish his accomplishments by using those teams as examples?

It's actually impressive how he somehow managed to look worse than the guy who claimed Bouchard plays like AHL D-Man in this same thread... Like how do you even pull that off?!

Oh I am definitely on a "am right streak"

I was also called embarrassing in the Yak and Puljuarvi threads. Comes with being right so often i guess

Just to be clear, and I want to point out...you actually haven't defended anything tbh

The OP was about you claiming the league figured him out, and teams have set plays specifically designed for Bouchard, to shut him down and expose him. The set play in particular was on a goal that was mostly Nurse and Browns fault, you came on here trying to convince ppl that they executed that specifically on Bouchard and he was the primary person to blame

At no point have you not only defended that stance.....you haven't even addressed it

I really don't think I'm the one being bi-polar here. My point has been pretty consistent with the OP
Bro you need to relax a bit. I was very hard on Bouchard last year and I called his bad season this year. Right now in the playoffs he is playing unreal (like a 9/10 million guy) he's been unbelievable for us. It's been only 9 games so let's hope he keeps it up and we can enjoy this run.

You started this all out of nowhere so relax a bit. Go put on your bumblebee suit with tight pants and enjoy the game with your 6 bee friends. Maybe I'll say hi to you when I drive up for the games. ;)

And to be clear because you talked about misquoting people I said far too often he had games where he played like an AHL blueliner which yes is far fetched, it also has some truth.

I did not say he was an AHL D. You are being hypocritical here.

All along I've said he's a 30-40th best in the league

^^^^Ya I said he has "nights" meaning inconstancy. You are implying I said he plays like that all the time. Anyways whatever he has been very good for us this run so far and let's hope round 3 is more of the same.

Thank you for clarifying.

Didn't you say something about Bouchard being unable to make smart plays quickly? If so, then swap that out with the AHL D-man comment in my statement because he just outplayed and outsmarted six top-4-quality NHL defenders on the same team...

If you know me you would know I am one of the biggest laughers at "advanced stats" as they are represented here most of the time

Just remember, advanced stats had alot of ppl convinced Puljujarvi was an elite talent, or that Yakupov was the best winger McDavid had

Bouchard was horrible this year in costly AND glaring errors. The plays he was making weren't minor mistakes or reads, they were flat out WTF IS HE DOING moments. A point can also be made he was a big reason we lost home ice as he alone was the culprit of 6 losses my count

Was he bad ALL year? No. But he sure wasn't good/great either. Hence.......4N snub

Having said all that, I love Bouch and more so...I love playoff Bouch. I also recognize that he's an elite talent making elite plays....most of the time

I "liked" the part where he called out the poster for saying he has no IQ. That's just plane stupid
This argument holds absolutely no weight and frankly, it's pretty laughable that you'd even use it.

I don't remember Yak's advanced stats - but Pulj? He didn't produce. Bouchard does produce. These two aren't anywhere in the same stratosphere. Naysaying of advanced stats only works when the player doesn't back it up. Bouchard absolutely does.

Bouchard is constantly in high pressure situations against each teams most elite players and he consistently makes calm, level headed decisions despite that pressure.

Who cares if he plays a bit more laissez-faire at times in the doldrums of the regular season? He still significantly outproduces and out impacts the game even with the occasional blunder. I shouldn't have to remind you since others have, but his turnover rates relative to the amount of puck touches he has is still among the top in the league despite those blunders.

Then, to bring it even further, he has been BY FAR the best defender in the past two playoffs in terms of overall impact. Dude is only behind Bobby Orr in p/pg. AND he has all but eliminated the blunders.

Ultimately, what matters is who steps up when the playoffs come around. We should be incredibly grateful that we have multiple guys on our team who do.

Bouchard lately has been stepping up in the neutral zone and stopping the rush instead of back pedaling into the zone , this is a new facet to his game we have not seen before and has been extremely effective so far he has done it 5 times so far and it has stopped the rush every time , his defensive game is starting to evolve
