Oilers are in major cap trouble. They cant move Nurse and have about 6 million to sign Bouchard, McLeod, and about 4 others. Bouchard cant sign a long term deal here and would he sign a cheap 2 year deal? Not so sure. Might be good to bite the bullet and attach him with a slightly bad contract and get some value for him. Fits perfect on this PP but he is a terrible defensive player and makes poor decisions in his own end with the puck. What could they get for him? He is an RFA. If he signed a deal with the Oilers how are they going to pay Leon in 2 years?

Bouchard is close to untouchable. He might be forced to take a contract lower than he wants due to the fact he doesn’t have arbitration rights and it could cost the Oilers in the future, but the window is now. Not in 3 years.

Things will be tight, but there are plenty of options to move out salary before the Oilers would explore dealing Bouchard.

If the Sharks are willing to do Bouchard Campbell plus for Erik Karlsson, that could work in theory maybe. They would need another powerplay scoring D in the trade though, and in most cases, the answer is "so why even trade Bouchard? just keep him"

How are the Oilers in major cap trouble? We don't know what next year's salary cap will be. And Edmonton has very few significant players who need to be re-signed. They're also likely to be active in the trade market and will be a pretty attractive destination for UFAs to sign favorable deals.

Bouchard is pretty much untouchable. And Nurse isn't sobriety they'd even look to move. These threads are dumb.

Seravalli's been saying the cap could go up 3-4 million this summer alone.

Even if it doesn't, there are a million options before trading Bouchard. His defensive play actually improved quite a bit compared to last year. It's easy to forget he's just a sophomore.

Without Bouchard, our right side consists of Ceci and Desharnais.

If you want my honest opinion, Bouchard should be Edmonton's most untouchable player after the two big guns.

He'll sign a bridge deal. 2 years X 3M or something like that.

His value is through the roof. He exploded in the last quarter of the season, and the playoffs. It would have to be a deal that brings in a legitimate #1 defenseman. A Norris contender - the type of guy that just isn't traded. And not a guy as old as Karlsson, I think that ship has sailed.

Why is there so much sensitivity when it comes to Oilers players? The replies haven’t addressed what the value might be.
That's because he's damned near untradeable and very difficult to put a price on. Edmonton wants to win now, and HF loves its trade offers of collections of random bullshit picks and B prospects and broken toys. Edmonton doesn't get better by trading Bouchard.

If Columbus came calling with an offer of 3rd overall, in a vacuum, that's a good offer from a value standpoint. But Edmonton is worse off for it and now is looking at a right side of Ceci and Desharnais. That's disgusting. I honestly think Edmonton would and should say no.

Its not impossible that he'll lead the playoffs in scoring by defencemen despite only playing two rounds. He had 17 points, the next closest guy that's still playing is Burns with 9.

Not a chance he gets traded. He is not that great defensively but as long as he plays the way he has since Barrie was traded his offense more then makes up for it.

He might want to calm down as the expectation is only 1 mill

You take that and run and sign someone like Severson. (Foegele and Yamamoto are traded in this scenario).

Kane-McDavid-Hyman
RNH-Draisaitl-Kostin
Holloway-Carlsson-Ryan
McLeod-Bjugstad-Bourgault

Ekholm-Severson
Nurse-Ceci
Broberg-Kulak

would absolutely be a better team. Bouchard is great, but Severson running PP1 would still be great. Also, Carlsson means you can go McDrai and still have a 2nd line center to rely on. Slight downgrade defensively for a huge upgrade forward wise. Moot point though as CBJ won't do it.

That defensive group is absolute buns, and signing Severson doesn't help it much. He cannot play top pairing. Neither can Ceci.

Leo Carlsson WILL be good eventually but he's committed to Orebro through the 24/25 season. He's not even setting foot in the NHL for two years yet. This is why a Bouchard trade is so difficult. We can't make our team worse right now for the potential of future benefits, especially when future benefits can't even play in north america for two years.

His value is through the roof, yet he’s gonna sign for $3 million? Get real

He's an RFA. RFA's have few options if they don't get offer sheeted, and that's another discussion altogether. 3M is on the low side for sure, but he's not getting the same AAV he would get on a long term deal, especially when his production has been rather short term. I would bet it will be a 2 or 3 year deal, somewhere between 3M and 4M AAV. As a comparable, Noah Dobson signed for 3 yrs X 4M AAV last summer. I don't think Bouchard has leverage to ask for more. I do worry that it could end up being a disupte between the team, as they have little extra cap space, and a player who deserves a big raise.

Trust me though, I wish we could lock him up to an 8 year deal, but the cap hit would be at least 6 or 7 if that was in play, and the Oilers don't have the space for that, even if they weren't needing to upgrade in other areas.

That's actually not a good team in my opinion. Not at all. That RD core is putrid, with all three playing either on a line too high, or on their off side.

We have four bottom pair defensemen in that lineup - 2 of which are playing in the top four. That's awful. We have Bourgault making the roster when he didn't show that he is ready to make the next step. We have Kostin going from 7 - 8 minutes a game (albeit impressive minutes) to 2nd line? Penciling in an 18 year old rookie, as impressive as he is? We can't assume Leo Carsson would be NHL ready on a contending team.

We need to temper expectations on some of these guys.

Kane - McDavid - Hyman
Nuge - Draisaitl - New (or if a miracle happens, Holloway or Lavoie takes this spot)
Kostin - Bjugstad (or replacement) - Ryan
Holloway - McLeod - Lavoie (if ready)

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - NEW (Scott Mayfield may be a good target)
Kulak - NEW (ideally, probably Desharnais again, but I'd prefer a veteran with Vinnie coming in as #7)

Trading Bouchard would open a hole on our right side that would be nearly impossible to fill. There are no UFA's that could take that spot, and there are no RFA's who we could target realistically to pull into that spot.

The Oilers could try to convince Bouchards camp that him playing as the primary PP QB for the next couple of seasons while on a bridge deal might make sense for a bigger longterm deal.

To trade bouchard is not the solution… with Ekholm he was everything but terrible on defense.

Drai‘s contract is up in 2 years… we are in win now mode… we handle things when it‘s time to take care of it… the salary cap will lkely be at least 7m higher by then (3 rounds of increses)… at the end of the day, sacrifices have to be made… we will see how much they care about bringing a cup to edmonton… but that‘s far ahead

Of course this is from a Vancouver fan. Trading Bouchard makes the team worse. Doing it is bafflingly bad.

Take a swipe at any teams good youngsters right after a painful playoff elimination and you’re not likely to get a lot of smiles and sunshine.

Bouchard is a very good young player we’ve developed. He’s a big, RH shot D who plays a very heady game with the puck on his stick. Is he a defensive stalwart? No, but he was actually pretty decent with Ekholm and has a lot of upside. He is critical to the Oilers and will be handled accordingly.

The value is “more to the Oilers than to anyone else.”

The Oilers have Bouchard penciled in as their top pairing RHD for the next decade. He is developing right on target. This is a pretty clueless thread. Bouchard isn't going anywhere.

Prime predatory offer sheet candidate. Oilers are in big trouble

They'll match any offer.

You have to be out of your mind if you think CBJ offers up the 3OA for Bouchard. You have lost touch...
