Yeah everyone keeps blaming Skinner but every single one of those goals was from the dots or closer and half of them he had no chance. They are going to need to find a reincarnated Hasek to play in front of that defense to make any real difference.

That said I'll give you Saros for basically nothing if you take him before that contract kicks in this summer.

I was wondering what Edmonton could get in return for Bouchard who is an RFA this summer.

I think he is looking for $70-$80 million and his game leaves a lot to be desired as we have seen when he is without Ekholm

Mayfield is a 2nd/3rd pair guy with a reasonable cap hit, but he's 32, signed for 5 more years, and many people speculate that it's time for Islanders to retool or even do a full rebuild. If you want to build a deep D core, Mayfield would ideally be 3rd pairing.

I wouldn't compare Mayfield with Emberson, Klingberg and Stecher level guys. He's better than that. Maybe more comparable with Kulak... he can play on your 2nd pair, and even do well there if he's a good match with the guy he's paired with, but in a perfect world he's your #5 guy on the 3rd pair. The guys you described I would consider to be #6 guys or even #7 guys.

There's no available goalie even remotely close to Bouchard's value. Take a good hard look at the UFA right shot defencemen, it's a wasteland. If you're not getting a Sorokin type (and you're not) trading Bouchard is stupid. The move right now - and it might be good for both parties - is a 2-3 year bridge.

You shouldn't have to give up a top pairing RD for league average goaltending. Other teams give up 2nds and lesser bits to fix their goaltending.

Demko is a stone cold lock to miss at least half of every season. My goalie friends tell me his knee is pulled pork. Hard pass.

If you're trading Bouchard the guy absorbing the PP time is Walman.

The difference between Swayman at his salary for Skinner at his salary is not Bouchard. Its probably a 3rd round pick without any retention.

Gibson at TDL suggestion was a good one and Oilers were reportedly exploring it as an option. It just wouldnt have cost them Bouchard. They would have taken him instead of Walman.
