Do people not know how contract negotiations work?

Bouchard asks for 11M.
Oilers offer 13M.
Bouchard takes 10.5M to keep the team competitive.
Fans salivate over what a team player he is.
That isn't how negotiations work unless you made a typo. The Oilers are not going to offer 2 million more than Bouch is asking. Bouch is asking 11 and the Oilers will counter with 9. My guess is they meet in the middle at around 10.

What offer sheet do you think Evan Bouchard would sign with the Habs that the Oilers wouldn't match ?

11,452,294 is 2 firsts, a 2nd, and a 3rd compensation. Next summer that number will be over 12 million.

Damn. That's a tough pill for the Oil. Gonna be paying 40 mil for 3 guys.
If he gets that much (he won't), it's a good thing Edmontons top guys can physically carry a team and put up insane numbers. Caps still going up. Poor guys have to pay top tier players. They could have a guy like Ep making 11+ million and not being able to carry a team.

Oilers don't have much caproom with big raises to Drai and Bouchard next year. Thinking 10 million
So enough for 4x 1st round picks thanks
Oilers would match that in my opinion
So Oilers give Bouchard a raise and Habs are also going to give Bouchard money?

So only 5 years!?

Lets go Petey right?

oiler fans don't have yell out inspiring chants in game 7 of the playoffs for our top paid guys to get going after being invisible.

Bouch will get paid and be worth every penny.

I actually do think Draisaitl took a discount, if you look at the cap increase from 8.5 to 14, it's pretty much exactly the amount of dead-cap (minus Campbell) that Chiarelli/Holland left on the cap.

8.5 (Drai's current salary) + 3.2 Brown bonus + 1.9 Neal buy-out + 300k Perry performance bonus = 13.9 million

Very interesting coincidence that's pretty much 14 million dollars.

It means they chose an amount that just randomly happened to be priced in already to the Oilers existing cap. He and his agent just looked at their cap and said "you're not using this cap on anything right now anyway, it's fair Leon at least gets that".

I mean maybe that's just random coincidence, it seems like a pretty big one though. The Oilers just happen to have pretty much exactly 14 million to offer Leon next year without having to move salary out.

By most metrics Bouchard was our #1D and got to game 7 of the Finals. It's not like he was #1 by a hair either. He's been the clear #1

Do you need glasses
If it's a 7 year contract at let's say at $10 million, that equal to $14 million per year in compensation. So the intent is only 5 years?

Maybe next try a little critical thinking before throwing attitude

Compensation is based on the AAV of the offer sheet. I'm not sure where you're getting 5 years or 14m in compensation.

If the Canadians offer $12x7 next year, 84m total, the compensation will only be 1, 1, 2, 3.

Any offersheet more than 5 years the total contract is dividedby 5, therefore $10 million over 7 years is a total of $70 million decided by 5 not 7, so the the compensation would be based on $14 million for compensation. All this means the compensation would be 4 X 1st round picks

Should be asking for $12-13M x 8.
But as usual, Bouchard is another core Oiler willing to take less for the good of the team and it's future.
I think he should force a trade to Florida or sign with Columbus.
