The guy who tried to buy the Habs was Pierre Karl Peladeau. Not sure if Laliberte was serious about buying the Sens let alone moving them.

Laliberte wanted to buy the team ti get the Le breton flats project.
Imagine what a group with vision and means could've done with that plot of land.

Just for fun, if Melnyk took on a partner with a 49% interest, 350M USD to buy in...what would change?

Yes ... I am speculating that the Quebec based group was motivated to move a team to Quebec. Why else would the league step in and turn an offer down... As I side note, most opinions here are speculation. I think White should have been paid $1.8, I think think EK deal was great, I think Lassi is decent etc. etc.
You are speculating that the league turned down the offer, and not Melnyk, that it wasn't because of the price and that he want to relocate despite having been part of a 4-5 billion dollar bid that included building an arena in Ottawa.

Your speculation seems to be based purely on being from Quebec, it's not a particularly strong argument hence why it's getting resistance. Melnyk didn't buy the team wanting to move it to Toronto, Dundon didn't buy Carolina to move it to Texas, why would Laliberté automatically only be interested in moving the team to Quebec? If he wants to move it, there would be far more favourable target locations.

This team is not moving ,EM cant afford hot water in the bathrooms..Where is he going to come up with relocation fee??Enough with the fear mongering...EM has turned his own market against him no body feels sorry for him including the BOG of the NHL whom would veto him trying to move it

No body has said the team is moving ... this is just about one crappy offer from CIRQ that may have been a low ball offer to relocate the team. Daly shut it down instantly.

Yeah he was Demarnis partner, and it was the latter that wanted to buy the team not the former...One only has to look at Ottawa U to see his name up on the wing his family built for his former University..To see what this could mean for the team and city..But well you know EM being EM he has f***ed this up too

The point is ... the ONLY offer we have heard about came from the Cirq group. The league shot it down... Most likely for all the reasons above including relocation.
Melnyk shot it down not the league because it was too low. This is the group that lost the lebreton bid to Rendezvous-Vous Lebreton. Does not sound like a relocation play to me. Betteman don’t do relocation unless it’s a final resort which Ottawa isn’t.

Oh sorry, my mistake. Feel free to spend another 30 pages speculating and fear mongering about something that has absolutely zero grounding in reality while you ignore anyone telling you how verifiable wrong your position is.

I'd like a billion bucks, tax free, no questions asked. But I don't go on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it after I'm shown that it's not gonna happen.

It wasn't an offer from Cirque du Soleil. Laliberte sold 90% of his stock in the company in 2015. He's as involved in Cirque du Soleil as Melnyk is in Biovail.

Laliberte also spends about as much time in Quebec City as Melnyk does in Ottawa. Not much.

The thinking that his primary reason for being interested in an NHL team is to move them to QC is based on nothing but "he was born there".

The rumor was also that he had interest as part of a group WITH Desmarais, who wanted the team as a vehicle to get access to the Lebreton re-development (he had the competing bid).

But sure. Desmarais was backing a bid to re-develop Lebreton, in Ottawa. He wanted to buy the Ottawa Senators, though, to play in Quebec City. Makes sense!

Can we talk about accessibility? I have IBS and the conditions in the washrooms at CTC are horrible. The idea of having a flare up at a game and having to use one of those bombers genuinely scares the shit out of me no pun intended. The bathroom stalls are disgusting. Is there any kind of system in place to accomodate IBS/Crohn's/Colitis people? Or are they expected to poo in puddles of piss/other peoples poo/vomit sometimes. It does prevent me from attending games.

Handicap bathroom?

Bring the kids and use the family bathroom?

Find a quiet corner?

Sounds shitty :(

Yeah they wanted to build a Lebreton arena just to move the team.

No individual with that sort of coin buys 49% of anything. They want control.

Not necessarily, although if they're cool ceding control they're more likely to come in for a smaller equity check.

The problem here is that Eugene is incompetent and the business isn't lucrative enough to bring in a minority/non-controlling partner. Ideally someone comes in for like 60% and takes over operations while giving Eugene a public facing role and letting him feel like he still owns the team. Would never happen.

The team rejected the deal, not Daly. And the deal "may have been a low ball offer to relocate the team". Or... it may not have. It takes effort to have a post so thoroughly devoid of any content, well done.
