The other aspect of this was NBC’s bid was based on TNT losing the rights and what Comcast would save by being able to reduce TNT’s affiliate fees. If the NBA had accepted the match their other new partner would be pissed and probably want a discount back.

This will get messy now. How much is WBD willing to try to tie up the new deals in litigation/arbitration to get leverage to get something from the NBA.

According to SBJ, they weren’t interested in doing that. I’m not even sure CBS or FOX would’ve wanted to do even if WBD was interested.

I'm sure WBD regrets not doing that. Besides, CBS hasn't aired a non-NFL Big 4 league game since Game 6 of the 1993 World Series. At that time, CBS, Paramount and Viacom were all separate entities, with the latter two in the process of merging. This would have been a great opportunity for CBS to change that.
