ESPN layoffs,Chris Chelios, and of course many others gone at espn

ESPN is a dying brand. Disney (which itself is not doing well) is likely to cut bait entirely. The landscape for sports entertainment has change dramatically and ESPN has done a poor job at adapting to the times. It may just fold entirely in the next 25 years.
Lol, it's obviously fine if it's not for another 25 years.

Have to consider that there are some who are within a year of their contract expiring that ESPN is probably just going to ride it out to the end and let them walk.

He's one of the GOATS thank god. I don't like his personal attacks he throws at people like Kyrie for example, or whenever politics are involved ..

But when the discussion is on basketball and basketball alone, he's awesome
Kyrie deserves every bit of shade he gets from Smith. He deserves much worse, in fact.

hopefully leah hextall got a raise
Was curious to see the split between layoffs Minorities and Non-Minorities.

Moss, Keyshawn, Jay Will, Rose, Carter (later), Freddy on ESPN Radio, etc. Seems like a 40/60 split give or take. Surprised a couple of the loudmouths like Perkins, Foxworth didn't get the axe.

10 minutes before the NHL draft all that was on Sportcenter was Dallas Cowboys, LeBron retirement talk and Lakers followed by WNBA talk. The 4 letter network has hitched its wagon to NBA and NFL only and ignores sports like Baseball and Hockey. It’s all political propaganda and two sports they cover anymore. Disgraceful shell of what it once was.

Lmao nah I disagree. People get way too worked up by Kyrie it's incredible.

I watch Kyrie for his Skillz. I could care less if he thinks the earth is flat or not

I thought McAfee was all about being the opposite of traditional big media like ESPN etc.. Now he’s their guy?
Figured he'd hire more help to run the company, but he's a new dad and doesn't want all of that responsibility for now. Maybe in a few years he goes back to be an Indy, but for his work/life balance, he thought it was best to go ESPN.

You mean when he isn't injured, stealing his team's money because his feelings are hurt and he needs to regroup or when he's sitting out for some nonsensical protest pseudo cause right?

This is probably less of a big deal for the NHL because it's more gate driven but it's still a problem.

ESPN paid big money to get all major sports on their network. And we're learning they can't actually afford it. They can't monetize it. Outside of the hysteria about TV ratings it does seem like younger people are less interested in pro sports, TV ratings have declined for most major sports. Once these big deals expire who are these leagues going to get to step up and pay billions?

The answer right now seems to be Amazon for the NFL as an example. Who knows how long streaming companies will be interested in paying exorbitant prices to get professional sports on their services though.

ESPN focuses on two sports. Football & basketball. They have idiotic takes like "SB favorite got beat pretty bad today (Week 5). Time to panic"? Many years ago they said Tom Brady was "Done". He proceeded to win 4 SB's (Went to 5), 3 SB MVP's, 1 NFL MVP, and put up stats in his 40's that most guys in their 20's wouldn't put up.

Nobody adds anything significant to these shows. Believe it or not, the shows were way better when Smith & Bayless were going at it.

Undisputed is better with Sharpe & Bayless. More engaging and you have a former player actually breaking down what went wrong.

Hopefully Messier, Kaplan, Querim, Perkins, Foxworth, Orlovsky, McDonough, and Mark Jackson are next.
