2003 - JFJ signed Joe Nieuwendyk
No offense to Nieuwy because he was a great player in his prime but that was a classic come home to retire as a Leaf signing that actually worked out great. But I can't believe Nieuwy was the biggest FA out there in 2003.

Wouldn't it make more sense to assume that Perry and Getzlaf are re-signing in Anaheim until they say they aren't?

He was still a big name at the time and single handedly won us game 7 against Ottawa in '04... but ok

2001 - Pat Quinn signed Alexander Mogilny? Better?

He was never going to come here anyways. How can we expect to sign elite free agent's when the team's record is ****. This is why making the playoffs is so important. No one important wants to come to a team that hasn't sniffed postseason in almost a decade.

Thank You. Its what I'm saying :handclap:

I thought the Leafs offered him a higher salary per year, but less $$ than the Rangers did.

No.. the numbers were identical per year - Burkie just didn't want to go beyond 6 years:

Rangers Leafs
2011-12 $12,000,000.00 $12,000,000.00
2012-13 $12,000,000.00 $12,000,000.00
2013-14 $9,000,000.00 $9,000,000.00
2014-15 $8,500,000.00 $8,500,000.00
2015-16 $8,500,000.00 $8,500,000.00
2016-17 $7,000,000.00 $7,000,000.00
2017-18 $1,000,000.00
2018-19 $1,000,000.00
2019-20 $1,000,000.00

Cap hit $6,666,666.67 $9,500,000.00

So we basically lost Richards for $3M.

And oh yeah, they have Gaborik and Lundy - it kinda makes a big difference.

As for Getz, as much as I'd like it to happen, I just don't think it will - we'd have a better shot at Perry, but IMO that's a pipe dream too.

When it comes down to where a player wants to go, money really isn't everything.

Getz stays imo. If we make the playoffs or come close, I think we can make an honest run at Perry since we'll have space but we have to finish well to have a chance.

I see us having a better chance at trading for Bobby Ryan as the Ducks will sign the other two but will not be able to afford all 3. Maybe Gardiner:D

Not saying that we will get either, I actually think if there not going to stay in anaheim I think toronto has a good chance of landing both, however I think getzlaf will stay. But for Toronto not being attractive I think where there from could never be forgotten. Parise and Suter both signed for a team 1 place better than the leafs (6)
