Getzlaf was quoted in ESPN article about Carlyle comparing him to Boudreau. If he gets to FA, may be an issue?

"Randy was great to me and I was with him for a long time. At times, I think Randy had trouble adapting to the newer game and the fact that guys come in in shape," Getzlaf said. "You don't have to spend all of training camp beating guys into shape. I think at times we got a little carried away with some of those things."

I highly doubt Getzlaf spends his off-season doing wind-sprints.

Getzlaf wife lives in Anaheim and is from there, he'll most likely re-sign with perry

Perry makes more sense here though. Rumoured he was interested while Burke was here, however wasn't rumoured to be directly related to Burke, is from Ontario, isnt the captain of his team, and apparently less ties to the team and the city.

Does anyone legitimately or realistically think that Getzlaf or Perry, if they reached free agency, would come here?

If guys were coming in to camp in the shape that Carlyle expects out of them then he wouldn't need to beat them into shape, would he?

So when Carlyle says that the team has another gear that they can go, that should mean that the team is actually in good shape?

There's usually another reason other than "shape" that coaches do this.

All I got from that is that Getzlaf didn't like all the skating drills he had to do.

He was never going to come here anyways. How can we expect to sign elite free agent's when the team's record is ****. This is why making the playoffs is so important. No one important wants to come to a team that hasn't sniffed postseason in almost a decade.

Forget Getzlaf coming or not. The real intrigue is his message to Carlisle. I would feel so much better about the team if Eakins was behind the bench. I know he won a Cup, but watching the team at the end of last year was almost impossible. I think the team is really going to struggle coming out of the gate trying to figure out what they can or can't do under his watch. Interesting to see how it effects Kessel.

Nothing a 7 year contract worth lots of money can't take care of.
