Value of: Erik Karlsson @ 50% to Vancouver?

Exact opposite of what Vancouver should be doing. This would empty the pipeline completely, and they still might not even be a playoff team.

Auquilini would approve.
The best of the pipeline graduated already. They have enough young talent & need to fix their defence and cap.

He wants to go to a playoff team

Then what could you offer that would move the needle for San Jose? They can probably find a better deal elsewhere.

I'm also not sure how you fix your defense by bringing in a player who isn't known for his defense, or fix your cap by bringing in a player who makes 11.5 mil a year. Even if you send both OEL and Garland the other way, you're still spending more once you factor in Garland's replacement.

Edit: I missed the 50% part. I can't see any reason why SJ would want to retain that much for 4 years.

To move that contract they would have to eat the 50 or take back a bad contract....Just don't see a team trading for him that contract was an anchor the day pen went to paper....

Vancouver doesn’t have the pieces available for us to retain 50%. They’d be dumb to do this but only guys that really would interest us and convince us to retain 50% is your untouchables.

I don’t understand why Vancouver would be in any interest of trading for assets unless it was for their rebuild. They sound like sellers every single day from the rumors on social media by all the insiders.

Also, the last three days when I do my morning ritual of tankathon spin. They end up winning Bedard. I know it’s irrelevant to the conversations. But this doesn’t make sense in the gameplan of the Canucks. Atleast what I’ve observed from the fans Interactions of a entire rebuild

Vancouver can afford to offer a combination of:

Podkolzin
Boeser
Hoglander
Garland
Any prospect
Anyone on the farm
Draft pick(s)

Vancouver would also like to dump one of OEL or Myers and Tanner Pearson. What gets it done?
Vancouver can afford none of that because without trading a Horvat sized contract at minimum and more they don't have the cap space this or next year to fit him on the roster with Miller's new contract and the upcoming extensions.

So this is wishful thinking for a cap dump that Vancouver can't afford to begin with let alone give assets for.

If you want this trade to happen Miller has to be going back the other way or OEL.

This is without once factoring in why SJ would do this favour to Vancouver with that much retention when they'd get a Kings random elsewhere for it

This is very abnormal but very funny timing. I’ve lived in Northern California my whole life and we’ve had some of the worst storms I’ve ever experienced the past few weeks.

Maybe he likes 2.5m tear down houses or $8 loaves of bread. Perhaps 3 weeks of straight rain might be of interest
Funny that most NHL players and families would probably prefer to live in Vancouver instead of San Jose eh?

EK and that contract simply isn't getting traded as it seems like people don't understand the salary cap very well.

As to the OP, the Canucks are a very unstructured team that has no problems scoring goals at times EK simply isn't a good fit here even if the salary cap issue wasn't a problem which it is.

You hanging in there okay? I got family in San Jose area, and they are explaining same thing as you are. Hopefully you and your family and friends are alright ❤️

I’d trade EK65 with two mil retained to Vancouver for Myers, Pearson, and two 1st round picks. But Vancouver makes little sense for Karlsson to uproot his family for. I think he’d either want to go back to Ottawa or go to a more proven playoff team. Otherwise he can just wait.

Citation needed on that first line.

Thanks! Yeah we are all good! Just lots of repairs going on but everyone’s totally fine and it’s mostly just fence repair! Nothing too bad! Hope your family is doing good too!
