Waived: Erik Brannstrom placed on waivers

They obviously prefer Forbort to him (and I guess Brisebois), so no room down the left side. The Juulsen stuff is just noise, since the coaching staff never plays defensemen on their off-side.

Depth chart looks like this (at full health):

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Myers
Forbort-Desharnais
Brisebois-Juulsen
Brannstrom-Friedman

Left and right side are locked, so only argue LS vs. LS and RS vs. RS. Juulsen is clearly just rotaing up the RS with Hronek out.

Did he say or do something that was unacceptable?? He seemed pretty good in his role and then gets benched for a month. Seems odd, so much for the Brannchise :(

Well, what a waste. When the team can barely move the puck you don't dump a guy who can. The stuff about him losing battles to me is irrelevant when guys like Juulsen and Deshsrnais get their pockets picked or turn over passes all the time. We needed some brain for all the meat, and we decided we don't want it.

In fairness to Brisebois, he’s been good. I don’t have an issue with him continuing to play.

Juulsen has struggled mightily. I get that he works hard and sacrifices the body, and coaches love that, but man has he struggled.

Odd to waive Brannstrom, but not surprising given how he clearly wasn’t getting the trust of Tocchet.

Hopefully this means Hronek is back soon.

My only real complaint is that he provides a skill set that the team is in short supply of. He's not changing the world or a game breaker or anything but holding on to depth is my only concern. But if Tocchet's not going to play him anyway...

As I've said before, they prioritize size and handedness over all else including offensive ability. It doesn't seems to matter whether that size can actually play at the NHL level. Brannstrom made some defensive gaffs for sure but Juulsen and Desharnais actually aren't any better and are arguably worse.

Is Hronek ready? He must have lit it up in his games with Abby, I'll have to check with Paterson.

Seriously, this was always going to happen.

I can’t bole what I wanted to point out… so just quoting the entire post

But the LH vs RH isn’t always true, last night we did not have An even mix.

It’s just maddening, cause I understand where the coaching staff is coming from, and I could free if we weren’t constantly being caved in at other points with a very struggling offense because we don’t dress any puck movers.

Like it seems like everyone here understands he isn’t some world beater he is just a nu bee 6… but he should be in over most of this trash defense.

I think that is the first time Tocchet has done it this season, and maybe the second time recently. He was somewhat comfortable playing Cole off-side, but he overwhelmingly keeps guys to their natural sides.

Overall you are right, but he has done it a few times this season. I am just showing it doesn’t have to be as it isn’t always.

The fact of the matter is, you need some of what Branstrom brings on the backend. He is a very limited player, and if this was last years team, he would.d have probably been the first guy I would waive easily… but this you need what he has, cause NO OTHER DMAN on the team does it… besides Hughes.
