Erie Otters 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

Yes Terrance signed an ELC in April with the Ducks.

I've heard Erliden isn't happy here from a few people and doesn't necessarily want to be here for a rebuild, so we shall see.

There is also Frasca and we have to assume he'd he back, unless he decides another route and doesn't want to be part of a rebuild.

I could see Daviault being dealt prior to the season to keep Dylan here with Kayden and allow Sauder to be the top defender assuming Schaefer leaves.

I agree Messier will likely be kept as a mentor and someone who will protect...well...someone.

However, this team is going to be young and without a single superstar and IMO no really high end skill players.

I would think Jake Murray also comes in and perhaps 2nd round pick Tyler Cooper.

Outside of that, man...we better hope they sign a ton of one and done players headed to the NCAA.

Our top line could be Frasca, Challenger, Roysten we are in for a world of hurt (outside of import players filling roles).
Heard from a few people Terrance will either play AHL or another pro league next year as NCAA is no longer an option. He's not NHL ready but won't be returning to Erie. Messier isn't back and was probably pursuing lacrosse and school. I'm not sure he was your typical OA so that's not really surprising. Also heard Sauder wasn't back as he was going to a good university in Ontario and playing hockey there. Thought he would have been a good OA as he had a strong year but maybe he had different plans. Erie can always trade for a decent OA as they usually aren't that expensive given they only have 1 year left and some teams probably have a surplus.

I think there are a ton of holes to fill upfront and on the blueline. Erie definitely needs to grab some BCHL/ USHL players like they did last year because it looks insanely thin. On the positive side, look like Erie could be in the running for top overall draft pick again.

We know we lose:

Misiak, Fimis, and Alfano

Spence is now out

Pick 3: Terrance, Edwards, Messier, Sauder, Daviault, Erliden.

Schaefer is probably 50/50, but could return because of his injury.

Have to assume that McCall, Frazer, and Hughes are all gone.

Who knows what else is looming...

That's 10 already from last years roster with 1 who could go either way.

Our team consists of:

Forwards: Phillips, Roysten, Challenger, Hammond, Wozney, K. Edwards

Defense: Henry, D'Alessio, Holomego, Knight, Willis, Ambrosio

Goalie...Burns

What's the worst record Erie has ever had?
i don't know, what reason would any of the 05's have to come back? Hurry up and sign so you can lose most nights and battle for last place? I'm sure they are all talking to schools or working trades by now.

Edwards has who to play with? Messier can protect what players?? Sauder and Daviault would be pinned in the D zone all season, Daviault could set a record for the worst minus in the league and it would only hurt Sauders reputation as a solid D man, Erliden will face 60 shots a game with that D

Also, i wouldn't be surprised to see some 06's leave as well, why would Chicago want Henry to stay? Hammond can skate all day long, but he will be stuck in his own end, so if he wants to showcase himself he needs to go and for an 07 like Roysten would do better playing on a contender for his draft year

It will be a very long season, we need to get some great imports, convince more players from the BCHL or USHL to come and we need to convince the right 05's to stay. This should be a very busy summer for DB

Unless Schaefer returns, who are we sending away for a good return on trade?

I can't foresee an OA wanting to come here unless they are completely out of options, we don't look to be remotely competitive right now.

Sauder leaving would be extremely smart for him and his own personal growth, but a huge loss for the blue line as he'd probably be our most consistent player.

If Messier is leaving, that kinda hurts with the brute force and somewhat of a mentorship. I felt he took it well playing on line 4 most of the season with the younger players and dropped the gloves for teammates when needed.

Messier is back next year unless he’s traded. He prioritized being able to play in the OHL as long as he can. Lacrosse is second priority. I personally asked him at an end of season meet and greet, which surprised me.

Tick tock Dave Brown. I've been following the Otters since the inaugural season and - at least on paper - the roster as it stands now is the weakest I've ever seen going into a season. No guarantee of #1OA with a last place finish either. Could easily end up with a Lockhart. They can miss the playoffs this year and fans would probably forgive it but the team flat out will not survive another 2018-2023 stretch of no playoffs. I have to assume they have something lined up for the import draft at least. It's just gross negligence if not.
