Erie Otters 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

Who’s out for tonight’s game from the Erie squad? Just wondering if we will get to see the future #1 overall pick :)

Schaefer will likely be out almost all of, if not all of February. His early anticipated return was early to mid March.

Also, it is nice to hear, outside of hockey there is a greater appreciation for watching the greatness of some of the young kids. I always love to see OHL players get drafted and excel in the NHL.

Me too. There's a lot of talent in the O, fun to watch those kids, Schaeffer, Spence, Protas, Ritchie, George, etc...

Can’t be mad at the result today. Of course you play to win, but given it’s a long road trip and London, it could’ve been much worse.

Erliden was superhuman in net and the difference maker. He was solid and the reason we had a chance.

We hope for a win in Sarnia before coming home for the school day game.

Erlinden was amazing. He made so many great saves. And such a cool mask.

Erliden deserved the 3rd star over Spence IMO. He was terrific.

So glad DB left us where we are. This team couldn't be in a better position primed to make a run in the playoffs. Without his vision over the, almost past decade we have been outstanding.

Burns 3 goals allowed on 5 shots to start his relief
Erliden pulled for the 3rd time in the last month? 4 goals on 11 shots

Dave Brown honestly should just resign at this point. The team would be better off.

Edit: as of right now all commenting has been turned off from the Otters official FB page because the fans are coming out in full displeasure of how the team is being coached/run.

Not sure how Erie thinks they are going to be a competitive team with 2 very average assistant coaches and no head coach. What a joke this team has become. Clearly the team is spinning and this is quickly becoming a lost year. Problem is, with NCAA opening things up, players aren't trapped anymore. Aside from losing 3 of their best forwards to aging out, why would other players come back into what will clearly be a weaker team next year that is poorly run. I think you will see a lot more players vanish from Erie at the end of the year than you might think. Kids don't need to burn time in a poorly run organization anymore. Should be interesting.

What’s even worse here is that not only that Dave Brown not be let go by the team ( ever ) but the fact that he will not resign himself… Which means this team is stuck…

My 3 season tickets next year -gone -I’m done

but on another note - how the hell can Ehrliden be one of the the top goaltenders in the league but then be be literally the worst in the league the next game ?? And obviously this has happened what 3-5 times throughout the year at least

This is such a terrible swing of extremes that it’s hard to understand ..like WTH is going on ??

Goalies often time take much longer than skaters to fully mature. He probably has at least 4 to 5 more years of consistent growth until he's hopefully close to his ceiling.

Seeing inconsistencies with goalies at this age isn't unexpected. Erliden has been by far the most consistent and high end goalie Erie has seen in quite some time. I fully expect him to continue to develop and grow.

If there is no fight for Spence being mauled by 4 Sudbury guys, this team is an absolute joke.
The only real enforcer is Messier but he’s suspended. McCall must be close to his three fight rule.

Holomego benched? I didn’t see him at all.

Holomego, Phillips, and Hammond have all seen 1 shift, maybe 2 through 2 periods.

That is going to be a huge sigh of relief for the Erie faithful. I wonder if team performance and maybe some messaging from the fans played a part in Larry Chapman being named activist Governor during the transition and the family appears as though they wish to honor JW and keep ownership!

All very positive news when the team has been all over the place with regards to performance, losing Schaefer, parting ways with a head coach, AND probably most tragically trying to overcome the loss of our owner.

Losing Chad will definitely also hurt, he's been instrumental on the front end of things, but perhaps this is some of the change needed to heal and move forward.

My only concern is if they are too loyal to Dave.. They have every reason to be given how close he was to JW and so there is a strong chance they just stick with him moving forward..

Sorry, but DB needs to go or at least move to a different role. It’s so obvious. How many GMs in the history of the league have been able to run the team into the ground the way he has and gotten away with it? I am sure someone can name 1 or 2 examples given the nature of this league but I would bet those franchises paid the price with continued mediocrity until a change was made… Nothing matters without better people running the organization..

The thought has crossed my kind, but maybe there is a reason he wasn't given more power in this situation with all that has transpired. Only time will tell, but I'd imagine there has to be at least some knowledge of it and the fans are expressing more displeasure with him every week on social media as the main reason for a sub par season.
