I focused on Schaefer tonight. This kid is special. He jumped into the rush locking eyes with the SOO defender, completely unnoticeable and passed it off to the winger. I want to know his TOI. He’s playing both positions and never takes a shift off. Some NHL team is going to get very lucky. Great character on and off the ice.

He’s also a +18 in 13 games, which is nuts.
Plus he has already exceeded his point total last year. He’s going to keep up his work ethic and he could be the top scoring defensemen.

Many say they think they’re a two way defensemen, but Schaefer truly is. He’s a special player.

Off my soap box.

Dickinson still exists so I highly doubt Schaefer will get to the top especially after missing time due to the illness but he’s obviously putting himself in contention for top overall pick at the NHL draft.. or at least getting closer to locking himself into a top 3 pick. All the more reason for Erie to be ALL IN on this team. I don’t think they are going to quite get there with LDN/KIT doing their thing and continuing to add but if I’m DB, I’m trying to be ultra aggressive with landing another college commit player who can be a big impact, preferably on the backend. Then I’m making a move for a backup goalie. And then I’m finding a way to add a top end forward at the deadline. If they do can add a 3/4 defenseman, a top 6 forward, and an actual backup goalie - they at least give themselves a chance to make a real run, which I think they owe to themselves when you have a talent like Schaefer and the strong OA class they have

Also, Terrance is quietly at a PPG now with 18pts in his last 11 games

Take away the 9 shots on the 5 on 3...

Kitchener 3 goals.
Erie 2 shots.

Pathetic 1st period...can only go up from here.

The message in between periods should be if you don’t want to play to win tonight, shower and suit up. Pathetic first period effort.

Fun fact. Jack Pridham who ran a 1st period clinic for Kitchener last night was also a teammate of recent Otters pickup Callum Hughes for West Kelowna and both happen to be BU commits as well.
I would be shocked if Pridham goes to BU next yr, I suspect the Chicago will sign him. From what I've seen he's capable of playing in the AHL next yr.

Turner was a 4th rounder last season who is committed to Colgate I believe. (Insert future dentist joke here).

Haven’t researched these guys yet… Are they that good?
From what I understand, Turner is a depth signing and would be the 7th D on Erie with opportunity to get some minutes. He is probably in Erie now as Schaefer is away and will dress against Owen Sound as the 6th D. D'Allessio would be an AP and called up only if things go pretty bad injury wise. These guys are playing in weaker leagues than the OHL, so its hard to speculate how well they would go in the faster game.

Helps tremendously with D depth. As long as we get a true contending team BUG I think we can pull off a deep run.
I don’t think Michael means much for this team at 15 years old.. (turns 16 in December). But Turner could definitely be an underrated move. Good size and one would think he’s at least a bottom pairing option.

BUG still a must and I still believe adding a top 6 is imperative if they want to actually have a chance against LDN/KIT who will still add. Musty breaking his hand could help lower his value a bit if he’s not returning until late January now but we shall see. If I’m Erie, I still find a way to pull the trigger on that type of move, especially if they fill out the rest with these ‘college prospects’ type players like Turner, Hughes, and maybe a BUG.

Btw, isn’t it just Erie’s luck that the last 2 drafts or so, they started pulling way back on their draft selections of US born / college route prospects? In the past, they were prone to take a few swings every draft + one big swing every few drafts (Ryan Alexander, Saganiuk as examples). They don’t seem to have quite the amount of options they would have had 3-4 years ago but maybe going forward, Erie could really tap into this more than most teams just given their location l. Contrary to what some people might think, there are definitely still some kids (and their parents) that would just prefer to play in their home country

Erie holds his rights and I don’t think he would’ve signed with the team if he didn’t have some interest playing here.
I think they were referring to the prior post saying Turner is just brought in as a 7th D right now for Erie. It’s hard to say what he’ll be but would agree that he’s probably not leaving his current situation to then come be a depth piece who plays occasionally. I’m sure Erie has seen enough of him to know what they are getting and part of the conversation with him had to be that he can slide into the 5/6 right away with room to grow and move up if he proves himself

Mathew Lansing, who was in last night's game for the US versus the CHL, is an Otter draft pick. I would think the players in that program would be less likely to come to the OHL, but who knows.

If he’s legit, he could probably replace Holomego or Ambrosio for the time being. With sending Knight down, I think they have a plan in place.

We just need a BUG and we should be able to make a run.

Define what a “run” is to you? For me, it’s making it to the conference championship series. Yes, BUG is the main priority so they can keep Erliden fresh but I also think a top 6 forward is pretty important to making a run. Their offense is still too inconsistent but the ceiling and potential is very much there. Adding another piece so they push Hammond to the 4th line is pretty crucial imo. Otherwise I think their back end forward group is too weak right now. Their 4th line is useless and their middle 6 is far too inconsistent because Royston/Hammond both shouldn’t be there

Just being realistic here - w out Musty and a stellar BUG - I’m not sure how far they’ll go this year ..This year not remotely close to what we looked like in those past 3-4 years of glory .. and w those stacked teams- we won 1 championship

Super inconsistent production of some .. about 3 that shouldn’t even be on the roster .. Frascia is a bust production wise to date

Costly to leave ustndp until the two year commitment is completed, I believe. The SAC program might be similar. Do you know if Turner is to be a full-time Otter this season or an affiliate?
