I was probably Daviault's #1 fan on our thread so figured I'd let give some info since I cant even remember the last time these two teams met lol (good luck tonight!)

Daviault as a 16 yr old had one heck of a season. We were destroyed by injuries so he got put into a tough, tough spot as a rookie. Had to play top-4 pretty much the entire 2nd half & for nearly an entire month we ran 4D so he had to play 30 minutes a night which is an absurd ask for a rook.

He handled it about as well as anyone could've asked. Which left me ecstatic for his potential moving forward. Unfortunately this season he just hasn't looked the same. Many of the things you guys didn't like about Kyrou, Daviault tends to do. Holds onto it to long, puts himself in bad spots, isn't overly tough in his own end & can come off a bit careless at times.

But when he is playing well & to his strengths he's an incredibly effective defensemen with great upside. He skates fairly well & uses it a lot, has really solid puck skills & is fearless. He's a fine defender that can be exposed at times, but he's still young to be fair. He is a pest too which hopefully u guys come to like as much as I did haha. I've rarely seen 16 yr old D piss off as many guys as he did just from chirping & little wacks, cross checks. He had the entire Flint roster taking runs at him last yr because he got under their skin & it didn't bother him one bit.

He'll have his bumps but I fully believe he'll be a solid Dman in this league who should be able to run your PP. Really do hope he does well for u guys.. Starting tomorrow haha.
Appreciate the info :thumbu:

Erie’s top 9 could look something like this in a few weeks:

Molnar - Terrance - Cohen
Gilmartin - Saganiuk - Bressette
Spence - Sedore - Alfano

I think that’s a pretty damn solid top 9. There might not be an elite guy but it’s well balanced with depth and gives you interchangeable lines. I really hope Molnar is as advertised in terms of skillset and that the transition is smooth. But with all the factors, I recognize it will not be easy. Hoping it works out because Kyrou could be addition by subtraction if you consider it more like adding Molnar/Daviault at the same time. Imo we needed more forward offense and more defensemen playing safer. If that can balance out more, maybe things get cleaner over the course of the season. I don’t have the highest levels of confidence but I do have renewed interest in the short term to see what these new pieces add. If they get healthy and Molnar is legit, Erie could be a sneaky playoff team. There is zero reason that this roster should miss the playoffs or be below .500. Zero reason

So the TL/DR version...

We traded Kyrou for a younger version of himself...hahaha!

On a serious note, thanks for the insight!

Very pleased with these moves over the past few days. There is a real argument to be had that the team could be better with Molnar/Daviault than it was with Kyrou. They get Gilmartin back 12/31 and hopefully the Saganiuk injury isn't serious. Ideally I'd like to see them finish #7 to make the playoffs, hopefully give London or Owen Sound a competitive series to gain experience, and still get a top 10 pick.

This also gets their draft cupboard back into good shape and puts them in a solid spot for next season imo. Whether or not it will be Brown/Adams running things is another discussion.

If Saganiuk has a broken hand, he should be back by early/mid January. Those usually heal in about a month depending on severity

I’m just going to leave this here… now, this picture is from May, however with Kyrou’s ego I’m sure this is what it looks like when he walks in Sarnia’s locker room tonight.

Why do you hate on him so much? He’s the most talented player we had. Sure, he was undisciplined at times and made mistakes but unlike most other players, he had the ability to make up for it with his skill/offense. We will miss him and I wish him well. He still has a lot of development and maybe, just maybe, the coaching was his issue

Also I see Molnar right to line #1 with Bressette. That didn’t take long

It would sure be nice to head into the new year suspension and injury free, but the Saganiuk injury is going to take some time, 4 - 6 weeks minimum from the time he was taken off I'd imagine.

Johnston was the same, broken finger, and it took him out for a significant portion of the start to the season.

Regardless of Colby's injury it will be exciting to see some fresh new blood on the ice and perhaps DB isn't done yet?

Broken hands, believe it or not, can sometimes even heal quicker than fingers… it all depends of course on the severity. So we really don’t know but McDavid once broke his broke hand in Erie but was back in a month

We need to be done w trades!! - swim - sink -whatever !!! No more this year

I like the Gilmartin trade in hindsight and I think he will be back next year if not an OA this year-( I can’t remember )

And of course Eries “BIG 3 “ events so far this year which most of us wanted . 1) we got rid of Hartsburgh ..2) we got Molnar 3) traded Kyrou for a good young player and most impt got some decent draft pics in return

No more excuses - let’ s go !!! This has been a good week ..

Molnar is on the top line with Saganiuk and Gilmartin out. It was a no brainer to put him on the first line.

Can’t enjoy a players presence when they’re nothing but toxic. MANY STH have mentioned trading him is best for the team. Maybe just maybe Kyrou didn’t listen to coaches and just did what he wanted?

Maybe just maybe Lalonde will be out of his head with Kyrou gone.

It's OK...

Some people thought really highly of Daniel Singer and Hayden Fowler...they ended up having bright futures with us too @OttersFan!

I mean, it isn't like predictions were made about 2 months ago with the team playing well above their current form and a healthy roster minus Johnston.

You are 100% right in that even the most skilled, but cancerous player, will bring an entire team down (see Hayden Fowler or even Lodnia in his final season). Best for both parties to move on because chemistry > skill the vast majority of the time.

Kyrou said he has known for the last couple weeks he was going to be traded. Obviously this had been something DB and company had in mind for a while I'm guessing as a contingency plan to one of their many blue prints the brainstorm as the season unfolds.

This would explain his poor workmanship as of recent. He knew he’d be gone, it was a matter of time, so why would he be a decent teammate? Late to practices, poor attitude to the coaches and billets. Consistently turning pucks over that would lead to goals. As you mentioned, he’s cancerous. Those types of players have no business here hence why they’re always getting the boot.

Or.. he is on the top line because he is only here because he needs ice in his draft year. If we didn’t offer that, why would he be here? He’s a 5th overall import pick. Like it or not, he has leverage and the team is desperate.

Some people also wanted us to consider bidding for the Mem Cup in 2024 and then 2 weeks later wanted the entire staff fired. A lot of fans on here use their heart and emotions, not their brains

This board must live rent free in your brain.

Erie doesn’t have the assets to host, but it would be beneficial for our city. With Kyrou gone, the morale on the team will go up which hopefully leads to better results after the break.

Everyone knows the staff from the top to the bottom has to go. That’s a no brainer.

I personally don't see why Erie doesn't bid for the memorial cup every year. It'd be an honor to host it, not to mention the revenue it would generate! I'd lobby for that every single year until they bring it here, regardless of the teams performance, it is putting Erie first!

Erie hosted the Frozen Four during the peak of the pandemic and seem to have great success. From what I recall, they had a good turn out. It would be fine to host if we could figure out a direction this team goes.

We went to see BC vs OSU and OSU vs Wisconsin in the Frozen Four for women's hockey and albeit attendance restrictions in limited capacity was sold out!

If we didn't get it during the McDavid years, there will never be an "opportune time" to bid. So, shoot for the stars.

You were the one that suggested that.. not me. Your expectations often are a bit far fetched and unrealistic, like many on the forum. One day it’s talking about Mem cup opportunities and the next it’s fire BJ, less than 25 games into his first full season as a head coach when I’m sure you were on the train to “give him a chance” this year. Again, inconsistent.

I understand being negative and frustrated. All fans are. Nobody wants to lose. But acting like Kyrou was the issue or smearing him out the door doesn’t really do any good when he was one of the few bright spots, especially from a PR perspective given his NHL draft status.

That’s what I thought. A bit less offense but a bit more grit. Daviault is always starting crap. Usually…..usually in a good way for his team.

Oh boy not good… Kitchener just traded for the league’s leading scorer and SOO got a steal from NIA. They are the only two teams ahead of us that aren’t 10+ points more than us and we gotta end this losing skid or else we could be out of it before February
