No guarantees but I heard Erie will take Misiak first overall in the import draft.

Meh. A 2004 born, 2nd round NHL pick? Seems underwhelming for 1st overall but again Erie is an underwhelming franchise so totally seems like how it would go for them

With the Russian conglomerate still banned from the import draft, hopefully he reports. After all of the drooling over Molnar, he has definitely not performed up to par, yet. Even worse, he wasn't even drafted.

I hope he doesn't regress, but have heard rumors teams are cautious of his off the ice conduct.

We need an impact player signed and reporting if we are to follow Stan Butler's timeline.

Misiak has already proven he can play in the USHL. Would be a high-end guy in the OHL at 19.

Perfect...

Right now our 04s worth anything at all are Sova, Alfano, and hopefully Fimis, IMO. Adding another high end Center/Forward would only help push the competition for top 6 and add much needed depth.

If Lalonde or Downey step up you COULD throw them one of them in the mix for 04s to possibly keep, but right now they are pretty average net minders and an OA goalie is a tough sell.

I just don't see McDonald or Smith at this point surpassing any of our 04 skaters. They could be insurance policies should any of our top 3 skaters impress for the upcoming season and leave us.

At the very least if we draft him and he reports he would help make a playoff push this season something we haven't seen in quite some time and one of Stan's biggest goals in turning the program around.

IF - THEN scenario :

If Russians are banned from coming here or to the OHL and playing, ( and I don’t know if they are or aren’t ) then why in Gods green earth, would Erie pick one?

What's ironic is the NHL doesn't care...

But yes, I meant that the import draft will not feature anyone from those 2 countries. The only way the kids got to stay in the OHL was if they were here before the war started (Kulakov).

In any event, in order to make our push we better have someone picked who will show up and will compete for top minutes. Molnar was sliding backwards after all the hype surrounding him.

The “drooling” over Molnar might have just had something to do with the fact that Erie has been dump for years and has lacked skill or top talent. Someone like Molnar, who had praise from scouts, was totally worthy of getting excited over. Not easy coming over to a new country and playing for below par coaching and talent… His draft stock didn’t change until he came here, imagine that. He wasn’t in the best spot to succeed but still managed to be in the top 6 all year because the talent is still there compared to most the roster. Erie is better going forward if he’s on the roster, that’s a fact

Doesn’t matter.. he’s 19.
If he’s legit, he’s here 1 year and gone. More than likely he’s just yet another middle 6 player who adds to the messy 2004 situation and is an OA candiate next year. Also I wouldn’t classify his point production in the USHL as anything exciting or something that would suggest he would be anymore than a 50-60 point guy as a 19 year old..

Sorry, but drafting a 19 year old with the 1st overall pick is just weak and a waste of a real asset.

Imports are getting harder to find. A contender might want a good 19 yr old import in January. Erie can certainly use picks to fund a run next season

Never said it was easy but the 1st overall pick is still the 1st overall pick. You are only competing against yourself and if that is the best you can do, picking a 19 year old and especially one who isn’t some top end prospect or close to the top of his age group, then I think that’s a weak pick. Nothing at all suggests he would be anything more than a middle 6 forward. Erie has plenty of those. Sure, trade them at the deadline but I guarantee you wouldn’t get nearly the value back that a 1st overall pick has especially when you consider that imports have less of a trade market or value across the league

Since at least 2007, there hasn’t been a 19 year old selected 1st overall. It probably goes further back but I got bored looking so I stopped. Almost every single player is in their 17 year old season with 2 players that were 18 and selected 1st in that timeframe of 16 years. Off age alone, it’s a dumb pick

I believe you can't trade imports for 1 full year. If you subscribe to the athletic, there's a good write up on Misiak by the Blackhawks beat writer.

Interesting pick. Hopefully it helps Molnar. Big question now is how does the lineup look? Does Misiak stay on a line with Molnar? If that is the case, who drops down the lineup? If we are really going for it in 2024, do we need any of our OA's outside of Bressette? Others would just be taking ice time from guys who have to develop to compete in 2024. It's nice to see we are finally getting some depth. Now these guys just need to develop....

Found a story on The Athletic from 2018 that says they can be traded in their first year, but there’s a short window to do it in. The story didn’t say what the dates were. Maybe Jan 1-10?

Might be a little dangerous what they’re doing .. almost like they’re trying to obtain older / bigger stronger guys in the present time frame - than draft younger players who will take years and years of time to develop for the future …

Could be due to the fact that we’ve sucked so much for 6-7 years and “ now is get to the playoffs and win a rnd or so time “ but I do like the pick and player

This could be the “ EURO LINE “ 😬
