But is it a points race? Forwards primary goal is to score, defensemen primary goal is to prevent scoring. If one is better at their secondary responsibility much more than their primary responsibility, is that award worthy?

For the record, I think the Calder should go to Celebrini. He's the best of the 3 all around.
Its more extraordinary for a dman to put up points, let alone win the rookie scoring race. What Hutson is doing is extraordinary and historic . Celebrini and Michkov are excellent but ordinary by Calder standards.

Celebrini? He should be behind Wolf and Michkov. Unless you think helping the worst team in the NHL remain the worst team in the NHL makes him better?

The Habs is in wild card race. Crucial game against the Panthers which is a top NHL team. Hutson got 3 assists in a 4-2 Habs win. He was the main contributor for this important win. It's really an injustice if Hutson didn't win the Calder.
Hutson had a great game, and his 1st assist was a beauty, but no need to exaggerate

Celebrini is -31 plus minus and second worst on his team. That stat is meaningful when used to compare teammates. Celebrini can not make a case for defensively responsible or defensively productive… that is laughable.
Plus minus relative between the 3 are
2,4,5th worst on their respective teams.

Not surprising for rookies though, maybe that helps Wolf.

As much as I like Hutson and think he'll win, March seems a bit premature for Habs fans to be doing victory laps.

Let's just celebrate how awesome he is without having victim complexes.
All we did is add him and the team is playing meaningful hockey in April when they used to be out of the picture by December. He already beat rookie records and he has 9 more games to add to that.

...exactly, it's a phenomenal rookie crop this year and any of the Top 4 (Hutson, Celebrini, Michkov, Wolf) are deserving...it's gonna be a tight race...

I am exaggerated when I said Hutson was the main contributor for the win? So he made a wonderful play to allow Suzuki to score the game winning goal and he contributed 2 more assists in a close 4-2 and he was not the main contributor? In your opinion who was the main contributor for this win then?

...Suzuki...and I'm a Habs fan, amigo...Suzuki stirs the drink...

Really good game by Lane. With the team MTL is building, he will be a perennial 60+ points d-man for the foreseeable future.

As for the Calder, many more games to go. But to beat him Michkov and Celebrini need to get to 70 points, which seems unlikely.

That’s my point. Anyone using defensive metrics to promote their man is grasping at straws. This is a points race with Wolf as a wild card.

But in a points race, if a defensman wins it, or is close, its his.
