The chasm between Hutson and Lidstrom's defensive play is.... from here to Mars.
As rookies? Not really. The talk back 30 years ago was that Lidstrom showed a lot of potential to be a great dman defensively in his rookie year, the radio often talked about how he demonstrated his future elite defensive skills.

He became an absolute stud defensively but it took a few years. It wasnt until his 3-4th year in the league that he really had that elite defensive skills, he was always good but he didn't just come into the league elite defensively. He was well insulated defensively early in his career and slowly given more responsibility. He played with Konstantinov, Chiasson, Racine, McCrimmon... not to mention Yzerman, Carson, Federov, Sheppard, Probert, Primeau (well, okay. He was a rookie so he wasn't prime yet).

It's weird to compare a 20 year old to a player in his prime, comparing 20 year olds are better.

I thought this thing was locked up for Celebrini, but gotta give Wolf a ton of credit. I'm kinda leaning towards him at this point.

Celebrini, Wolf, Hutson.. We're talking about future elite players here (if they aren't already) and that's not even mentioning Michkov & his immense potential.

Outstanding year for rookies. All 3 have a great case for the Calder, its tough to vote on this year.

Lidstrom was very good defensively in his rookie NHL season and much better than Hutson is and it's not even really close.

He played regularly on the PK and was a positive force (not the only one) in the REd Wings going from 17th to 6th defensively.

Either way it doesn't matter what hutson does vis a vis others in past seasons for the Calder this year, the Calder is about play this year.

Since we are back came here to post this but the site was down here goes.

Some of the highlights

Celebrini, 18, has seen his first-place vote share go from 90% to 60% to now 48% this month -- still a sizable advantage, but other rookies are clearly invited to the party. Celebrini has been around the rookie lead in goals and points, and has steadily led in points per game after having missed some time earlier this season.

Welcome to the NHL Awards Watch for March. We've polled a wide selection of Professional Hockey Writers Association voters anonymously to get a sense of where the wind is blowing for the current leaders. We've made sure it's a cross section from the entire league, trying to gain as many perspectives as possible.

Its a bad look on St. Louis. Anyway, trick/surprise play on 3 on 3 ot.
Didn't realize St Louis was out there playing.

I'll let you have this one. Bad look on Hutson. Chances of it happening again in his career?
Probably zero and remember Mario undressed Bourque as a rookie and he turned out okay.

Hutson is going to be fine and a finalist for the Calder and right now any of those 3 guy could win it, Michkov will be 4th.

No you're right it was a great look right?
In all honest it looked about as good as when Caufield walked Celebrini to win the game in OT.

One was a forward out of position covering for a defender in OT. The other was a defender, lined up for an OT faceoff as a winger who was burned by a set play. They will both probably learn from those two plays.

wetty still trying his very hardest to hate on Hutson

On any Habs player actually. He's in the Slaf thread bitchin Slaf, he's in the Caufield thread bitchin Caufield and the Calder thread bitchin Hutson.

We should start a Suzuki thread, see if the hater will bite. I can understand the insecurity though, seeing how Pettersson peters out and his team is crumbling, all hopes flying out the window. Gotta have an outlet. For wetty, it's the Habs.

Yeah been a rough year for canuck fans. Wish i could say I’m sorry for them. At least the weather is nice there, beautiful part of Canada, they don’t really need to enjoy competitive nhl hockey to have a good life over the next 10-15 years

For what it's worth at the moment...It's obviously a very tight race:

At this point i really believe Hutson and wolf are having the best seasons

A pre-planned, set play off the draw in 3 on 3 lmao. Grasping at straws here.
A pre-planned set play, like they were trying to score or something?

Get real.

Dude I commented on a video clip take off your Hutson tinted glasses and accept reality it was a bad look nothing more nothing less.

Put another way if they miss the playoffs by a single point it won't be because of that play it would be because of the whole season.

People ignoring the reality of what their eyes se e just makes them look bad, learn the lesson here.

It's a discussion board on the main boards, if you want 100% uninterrupted fan boi cheering stay on the Habs page.

If you want to discuss players that's one thing but any criticism from players on a team that isn't in the playoffs is warranted if people are promoting ridiculous views.

EP40 has played like crap this season and Suzuki has played much better obviously.

I call balls and strikes as I see them, disagree but stop being so disagreeable it's a bad look.

The worst part is that they play just well enough to not get a franchise altering high draft pick which is something we really need here, weather has been okay for sure but the poutine doesn't compare.

I'm not a smoked meat sandwich guy so I'm not missing out.

Oh, the typical "i'm using constructive criticism" pretense.

You've used plenty of nonsensical arguments that show exactly what you are. You can pretend all you want, it's clear to many people and has nothing to do with wanting a habs cheer fest.

I come to all of my arguments in good faith, you keep doing you though as you got the like you wanted.

Sure whatever man, just because you disagree you call them nonsensical, wants non sensical is when a guy says something and then doesn't back it up with like anything but you agree so that's okay.

Every fan base has guys like that and luckily most Hab fans are better hockey fans than that vocal minority.

You couldn’t wait for your chance to say “man that’s not a good look” on something lane hutson did and hilariously enough you chose a set/trick play off the faceoff that took suzuki by surprise as well to take your shot at him.

Meanwhile a few weeks ago cole caufield made celebrini look silly in overtime, i don’t remember you being the first one to take your shot at celebrini when that happened.

There are always going to be posters that have a dislike for certain teams for whatever reason. I’ve always felt that cheering against certain players from teams you don’t like is something small people do but I’m not immune to it with the leafs for example.

Just don’t pretend you’re here for objective hockey discussion or that you actually argue in “good faith”. (LOL) and to offer contrarian views to “bring balance” to the boards when it’s comically obvious what your agenda really is. You don’t like the canadiens and it bothers you to the core to see them with fantastic young players like Lane Hutson.
