I'll say it from the start I love Hutson and I'm a habs fan,

But, regardless of that, I still feel like a defenseman should be regarded as more difficult than a forward position to play and more so when you're a rookie. IMO, He's not a defensive mastermind, but putting up those kind of points while playing defence is arguably WAY more exceptional than a forward unless the points spread are outrageous

To appreciate Hutson's son game you have to watch the last minute of the Habs - Canucks game. Hutson caused so much trouble in Canucks zone and forced the Canucks to take the penalty late in the game. In the ensuring penalty in OT, he feed Suzuki with a good pass resulting in the game winning goal from Suzuki. During the whole game, Hutson made so many good play but his teammates can't convert. The game should never go to OT if Habs players converted Hutson's plays.

I'm just going to say it... If a rookie defenseman ends a full year with as many points (or more points) than all the rookie forwards, he should get the Calder for sure. Especially if his competition is at the skill level of rookies like Celebrini and Michkov.

If Macklin and Matvei want the Calder, they will have to get at least 10+ points over Hutson by the end of the year. No offense meant to those two incredible players.

I feel like dmen are undervalued overall- mackinnon has 65 points, +13, 23:06 toi. Makar has 49 points, +13, 25:31 toi. Makar eats +2 minutes a game, has to stop the opponent to a greater degree while still generating offense, but Mac gets voted 2nd best player while Makar is voted 5th at best, and this ain’t even his best season. Dmen value> forwards, there i said it.

you would have to look at other things like + - and more, and since a good defense spends arguably more time on the ice, I think its easier for him to be on the point sheet for assists, but then there it is, very few defense get that opportunity and those who dont dont have quality time in the O zone, so that said Hutson is a very special player allowing himself all the O zone time, point for point, he gets it for sure
