Michkov comes to mind as the x-factor. Celebrini had two points in his 1st period. A lot depends on if he gets hurt. Bedard missed 15 games and still won the Calder though. But it might be a stronger class this year.

Stankoven will not allow this thread to drop to the 3rd page for long. After a quiet night Thursday in Washington he picks up two more assists against Edmonton this afternoon. 6 games, 7 points...pretty, pretty good.

Logan Stankoven winning the Calder with a 0 goals 100 assist season would be very funny.

Seems like most of the rookies have cooled off a bit. It’s a real shame that Celebrini is injured too.

I personally think Stankoven has better chances to win Calder than Michkov. Of course not because he's the better player - it's the other way round. But Michkov has never played more than 70 games/season, and those 70 games happened in his first MHL season. And NHL season is much tougher than MHL one so at some point Michkov will become gassed, and his numbers decline.

No need to bash Stankoven. He could very well be right now better than Michkov. He is older and more developed, plus he does not have to adapt to NA, plus better team, etc

The two early faves at Forwad:

Stank has 8pts (2 on PP) in 8 games @ 15:33 TOI

Michov has 7pts (6 on PP) in 7 games @ 19:09 TO

I don’t know how much the ice time discrepancy and ‘5v5 vs PP’ spread matters in eyes of the voters

Saying that Michkov is better isn't bashing Stankoven, though. Michkov could easily have had 3-4 points more if his teammates scored on atleast some chances Matvei created for him. And Michkov still leads his team in scoring (3 more points after 7 games than the next best scorer) while Stankoven 2-4 on his team with just 1 goal.

But in the end I think Stankoven will outscore Michkov.

After the Celebrini injury and Michkov scratches (unless he plays all remaining), I wonder if Stankoven will pull away. Or maybe Hutson goes on a tear.

Stankoven won’t pull away because Celebrini is back from injury and looks great. But I definitely could see Stankoven winning. That said, I just have a feeling Celebrini will have an amazing season and edge out a victory.

I certainly wouldn't be complaining. Stankoven was always going to be in the mix even if everyone was fully healthy and playing though.
